Hundred Migrants Camp on Bosnia Border with Croatia

About 100 migrants including families with children camped overnight by a border crossing in Bosnia seeking to pass into Croatia, police said Tuesday.

"These people spent the night outside. They are under police surveillance next to the border crossing of Izacic" near the northwestern town of Bihac, a police spokeswoman told AFP.

Police prevented them from getting close to the border crossing.

The migrants stayed on the side of the road while overnight the temperature in the area dropped to five degrees Celsius (41 degrees Fahrenheit).

Police were trying to persuade the migrants to return to a nearby hotel but they were refusing to do so, police spokeswoman Snezana Galic said.

Bosnia was previously avoided by migrants trying to reach Western Europe but it has seen an influx since the start year.

Bihac is on the border with Europan Union member Croatia.

Police estimate there are several thousand migrants in the Bihac area but Bosnian authorities have not yet set up a formal reception centre in the area.
