British Annual Inflation Slows to 2.3 Percent

UK annual inflation slowed in November, partly thanks to falling motor fuel prices, official data showed on Wednesday.

The consumer price index rose by 2.3 percent, its slowest increase since the start of 2017, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said in a statement.

That was in line with market expectations and compared with 2.4 percent in October.

"The largest downward contributions... came from falls in petrol prices and across a variety of recreational and cultural goods and services, principally games, toys and hobbies, and cultural services," the ONS said in a statement.

Petrol prices dipped owing to the falling cost of crude oil on world markets.
