Officer, Policeman Held in ISF Corruption Case

An Internal Security Forces officer and a policeman were ordered detained on Friday in an ongoing probe into corruption in the ISF institution.

“Under the supervision of the military prosecution, the ISF Intelligence Branch continued its interrogation of a large number of security personnel and civilians in the multi-pronged corruption file, in which new details emerge everyday,” the National News Agency said.

It said State Commissioner to the Military Court Judge Hani al-Hajjar ordered the detention of an ISF captain and a member of the anti-drug bureau after he interrogated them.

“There are suspicions over intensive phone calls they held with a lawyer hired to defend suspected accused of drug-related offenses and her attempt to obtain information relating to her clients' files,” NNA reported.

Hajjar has also asked the Beirut Bar Association to grant him permission to prosecute the aforementioned lawyer, the agency added.

Several officers and policemen have been interrogated and detained in the ongoing case, which involves bribery and abuse of power charges.
