State Prosecutor Bodyguard Held over Suspected Bribery

The military prosecution on Friday ordered the detention of one of the bodyguards of State Prosecutor Samir Hammoud over suspicions that he had received bribes in return for favors.

The National News Agency said the guard is a member of the State Security agency.

“The member was arrested after the Internal Security Forces Intelligence Branch provided Judge Hammoud with intel it has about this member, after which he granted it permission to interrogate him,” NNA said.

“After interrogation, Judge Hammoud told the Intelligence Branch interrogators to contact the military prosecution, which ordered him detained,” the agency added.

Last month, a bodyguard of Mount Lebanon Prosecutor Judge Ghada Aoun was also detained on charges of involvement in bribery-related offenses.

Several ISF officers and policemen and State Security agents have been interrogated and detained in recent weeks as part of a crackdown on bribery and abuse of power offenses.
