Protests Renew Against Possible Salary Cuts

State employees and military retirees renewed their protests on Friday and kicked off sit-ins in Riad al-Solh Square denouncing possible salary cuts as part of austere budget measures planned by the government.

Retired military and servicemen took to the Square again in Beirutو chanting slogans as the Cabinet continues successive sessions to discuss a controversial “unpopular” austerity plan.

Similarly, full-time professors at the Lebanese University said: “We are in solidarity with the military retirees, we ask the officials to seek a solution to the crisis from other doors, not from the pockets of professors and low-income people. We will not abandon our rights.”
