A Piano in My Pillow: Light and Sound Improvisation Performance in Lebanon

A light and sound performance presented by Vladimir Kurumilian and Alaa Minawi will be held on March 10 at Monot Theater.

“A Piano in My Pillow”, is a performance based on the concept of dreams and their influence in portraying human reality.

An improvisation between light and sound will be an experiment on the relation between light and sound, and the power of such intangible, yet so influential elements, on human lives.

Both artists will not see the other’s designs and creations beforehand. On the day of the performance the two elements will meet

Alaa, who had been working on lighting design as a breathing entity since 2010, will transform a series of dream stories into a designed light.

It has been two months, and still in progress, that Alaa is working on the stories and experimenting with lights. The stories and the ideas are the outcome of both Vladimir and Alaa.

Vladimir, improvises music, and in this particular performance there will be sounds incorporated, realizing that music is also sound.

Vladimir, who has been working since 2009 on his own improvisation project will transform whatever he gets from the lighting designed into sounds and he has been experimenting on elements that would create sounds for the past two months.

In this sense, dreams will be transformed into light and light will transcend into sound, at some points the sound might derive the light.
