Suleiman: No Political Cover Will Be Provided to Anyone Harming Citizens’ Health

President Michel Suleiman slammed on Saturday the rise in the discovery of spoiled food products in Lebanon, deeming such cases as “unacceptable.”

He said: “No political cover will be provided to anyone who harms the citizens’ health.”

He therefore urged officials to adopt strict measures against the violators and refer them to the judiciary.

The president stressed that the judicial authorities should follow up on these cases until the truth is uncovered.

Twenty-five tons of spoiled meat were seized by the Ministry of Economy’s Consumer Protection Directorate in the Beirut district of Tariq Jedideh on Wednesday.

“The raid unveiled the presence of 25 tons of expired meat at a commercial company in Tariq Jedideh,” Directorate chief Fouad Flaifel told Al-Jadeed television.

“Investigations are still ongoing and the quantity of meat will be disposed of after the authorization of the public prosecutor’s office,” Flaifel added.

Six days ago Flaifel revealed that a quantity of spoiled fish had been seized in the Beirut southern suburb of al-Jamous.

He also announced last week that a quantity of expired meat had been confiscated at a factory in the Beirut eastern suburb of al-Fanar.
