Suleiman Urges Arab Action to Improve Job Market and Fight Poverty

President Michel Suleiman urged Arab businessmen on Monday to improve the Arab job market to provide better opportunities for the region’s youth.

On the 60th anniversary of the establishment of General Union of Arab Chambers, Suleiman said social growth and personal liberties are a guarantee to develop freedom and justice.

“There is a need for cooperation between all production sectors to improve the job market and combat poverty and unemployment ,” Suleiman said at the ceremony held in Beirut.

The president urged for the development of laws to facilitate the move of the labor workforce in the Arab world and provide them with better job opportunities.

Suleiman also called for a link between the financial markets in the Arab countries and creating investment banks in which Arab funds would participate to implement development projects.

“Direct investments by the private sector in major projects are a foundation for the economy’s success,” he stressed.

Turning to Lebanon, Suleiman said the country’s banking sector has achieved considerable growth and vowed to preserve the characteristics of the Lebanese economy.
