March 8 MPs Defend Govt., Call for Cooperation among its Members

The March 8 camp MPs continued their defense of the government during the third day of a parliament session aimed at assessing its performance.

Development and Liberation bloc MP Yassine Jaber kicked off the session by saying that the Lebanese people “have grown fed up with the political debates outside and within the government.”

“None of these debates help because the people want action,” he stressed.

“The government failed to mark any accomplishments due to the differences within it. It is not acting as a unified body, which is costing it the people’s faith,” he added.

These people are the same ones who will head to the parliamentary elections in 2013 to have their say about the political performance in Lebanon, noted Jaber.

He therefore called on Prime Minister Najib Miqati to launch a new phase for the government in May during which its members can act as one team.

In addition, he criticized the poor economic situation in Lebanon, including the lack of state budget “for the seventh year in a row.”

Change and Reform bloc MP Ghassan Mokhaiber later took to the podium where he called on the government factions to “cooperate despite their differences.”

“They must cooperate to continue the establishment of the non-existent state institutions and build a state for our children,” he stressed.

He also urged citizens “to perform their duties to this end.”

“The current state is suffering from several handicaps and we should work together to cure it,” said Mokhaiber.
