March 14 to Meet in Maarab Again, Form 400-Strong National Council

The March 14 forces are expected to hold a second meeting at Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea’s residence in Maarab to set the stage for the announcement of the national council, An Nahar newspaper reported on Wednesday.

According to the daily, Phalange party leader Amin Gemayel held talks on Tuesday with the members of the committee tasked by the March 14 coalition to form the council - MPs Marwan Hamadeh, Elie Marouni and Dori Chamoun and ex-lawmakers Elias Attallah and Ghattas Khoury.

The committee is expected to meet later Geagea, National Bloc leader Carlos Edde and March 14 officials to prepare for the national council’s first meeting to elect a president, his deputy and four secretaries.

Al-Liwaa newspaper said that the council will gather around 350-400 people including the March 14 parties’ representatives and members from the civil society.

On April 11, the March 14 forces held a meeting in Maarab to denounce the attempted assassination against Geagea through sniper fire.

The conferees stressed that the failed attack on the LF chief was “an attack against the entire March 14 movement.”
