For the first time in history, Safa won its first ever league title Friday defeating Nejmeh 1-0 in a match attended by more than 11 thousand spectators in Sidon.
Although violence erupted in the stands between supporters of the two teams threating to mar the occasion, security forces were able to contain the chaos with one injury reported after sustained bottle throwing.
Muhammad Tahan scored the sole goal 59 minutes in, when a short corner from Safa resulted in an accurate cross from Haidar. The in swinging cross found the head of Mohamad Zein Tahan, who got ahead of the Nejmeh goalkeeper Dikramanji thus costing his team a goal.
