Sources: No Hizbullah Condition on Miqati to Cut Ties with Tribunal

Political sources have denied that Hizbullah has conditioned Premier-designate Najib Miqati on the inclusion of an article in the cabinet’s policy statement that cuts Lebanon’s ties with the international tribunal.

Hizbullah has decided to deal with each case as it arises, the sources said, adding that Miqati’s government will seek to avoid a confrontation with the international community by steering clear of an immediate agreement to abolish the court.

While the sources did not explain how the party would deal with each case, other sources ruled out the cabinet would “stab” the indictment in ex-Premier Rafik Hariri’s assassination case.

Last week, Special Tribunal for Lebanon Prosecutor Daniel Bellemare filed an amended indictment based on further evidence in the probe into Hariri’s 2005 killing.

The original indictment, which is being kept confidential, is under examination by Belgian judge Daniel Fransen who has the responsibility of confirming it before arrest warrants or summonses are issued.
