Aoun Says Geagea Won't Reject Dialogue Resolutions

Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun on Tuesday voiced his satisfaction with the national dialogue session held earlier in the day at the presidential palace, noting that “from now on, every person will be held responsible for obstructing the implementation of the principles,” in reference to the Declaration of Principles agreed by the members of the national dialogue committee.

In an interview on his movement’s mouthpiece OTV, Aoun said a “major responsibility” falls on the Lebanese leaders to ensure the implementation of the endorsed resolutions.

He noted that the conferees discussed the controversial issues in depth.

Answering a question, Aoun said Finance Minister “Mohammed Safadi was absent due to illness, (ex-PM) Sheikh Saad Hariri because he is abroad and (Lebanese Forces leader) Mr. Samir Geagea because he believes the meeting will be fruitless.”

Aoun said ex-PM Fouad Saniora hinted during the dialogue session that Geagea is represented by his allies.

“I don't believe that the LF will voice rejection if we reach consensus over certain issues,” added Aoun.

“I’m satisfied with today’s dialogue session and its results because it defined the principles we need to implement,” he said.

Aoun said the issue of forming a new government was discussed, but noted that “the current government will implement the resolutions because the threats are imminent.”
