LF Nominates Fadi Karam to Run in Koura By-Election

The Lebanese Forces announced on Wednesday the nomination of Dr. Fadi Abdallah Karam, the former chairman of Tripoli’s dentists’ syndicate, to run in the parliamentary by-election in Koura after the death of MP Farid Habib.

LF leader Samir Geagea held a press conference in Maarab to announce the “unanimous nomination of comrade Dr. Fadi Abdallah Karam to contest the by-election for the vacant seat of Koura after the death of our comrade Farid Habib.”

Habib passed away on May 30 after a battle with illness.

He was elected in 2005 for one of the Greek Orthodox seats of the second electorate in the North. He was reelected in 2009 as a representative of the Koura district.

Interior Minister Marwan Charbel has said that the by-electionswill be held on July 15.

Geagea pointed out that the nomination was "based on the bylaws of the Lebanese Forces, especially the second paragraph of Article 101, and after consulting all the party’s departments in Koura.”

Karam was elected chairman of Tripoli’s dentists’ syndicate from 2005 to 2008 and was elected in 2008 as president of the Union of Liberal Professions in Lebanon and is a civil society activist in the North.
