March 14 Set to Take ‘Important’ Stance after Casting Doubt on Dialogue
The March 14 opposition is set to take an “important” stance from the national dialogue that is set to be held at Baabda Palace next Wednesday, its third session since it resumed last month following a 19-month standstill, An Nahar daily reported.
The sources told the newspaper on Wednesday that the alliance can’t ignore the assassination attempts against Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea and MP Butros Harb, and reports about plots on other March 14 personalities.
The opposition considers Hizbullah MP Mohammed Raad’s announcement that it is premature for political leaders to discuss the national defense strategy as a declaration that kills any hope for dialogue and calls on President Michel Suleiman to end his attempts to find consensus among the rival officials, the sources said.
Raad said on Monday that Hizbullah doesn’t want a defense strategy now because it is still in the liberation stage.
Phalange leader Amin Gemayel and Geagea discussed the next dialogue session during a meeting they held in Maarab on Tuesday.
Gemayel’s sources told An Nahar that the latest developments in the country could lead to the collapse of the all-party talks and harm the president.
Another March 14 official said that all the opposition leaders began casting doubts on the dialogue and could visit Suleiman to express their fears on the situation.
