Hizbullah Denies Party Member Detained in Damascus

Hizbullah denied on Monday that the Free Syrian Army captured a member of the party in Damascus, Hizbullah's media relations department said.

“Al-Arabiya news channel reported that the FSA detained a member of Hizbullah identified as Sayyed Hassan Salim al-Meqdad. The party denies these claims,” said the statement.

Al-Arabiya reported earlier that the FSA was able to detain a member of Hizbullah who allegedly entered Syria within a group of 1,500 people who spread in Damascus, Aleppo and Homs.

The channel aired a video showing al-Meqdad confessing that Hizbullah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah ordered him to head to Syria to “support the Shiite Syrian regime” against “the Sunni gunmen known as the FSA.”

Al-Meqdad, who is allegedly a sniper, noted that he hadn’t infiltrated to Syria through illegal crossings, saying he was offered all the facilities on the border.

“We were a group of 250 in Damascus and resided in the Shrine of Sayeda Zeinab,” he said.

He confessed most of the snipers are being trained in the eastern Lebanese city of Baalbek.

Al-Meqdad urged Nasrallah to “halt his scourge of the Syrian people, who is only seeking freedom and a dignified life.”
