Mustaqbal Calls on Shami to Summon Syria’s Ambassador to Lebanon So he May Clarify his Recent Statements

The Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc condemned on Tuesday Syria’s accusations against MP Jamal al-Jarrah that he was funding a terrorist cell stirring unrest in Syria.

It said in a statement after its weekly meeting: “The movement and its bloc have not and do not intend on meddling in the developments in Syria.”

Furthermore, it rejected the “systematic media and political campaign” against the movement and some members of its parliamentary bloc, saying that it is aimed at diverting their attention from national goals.

On this note, the bloc demanded that caretaker Foreign Minister Ali Shami summon the Syrian Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Abdul Karim Ali over his latest statements on Lebanese officials’ alleged meddling in Syrian affairs.

Addressing the government formation process in Lebanon, the bloc lamented the negative repercussions the delay is having on the economic situation in Lebanon.

The statement said that the delay caused by the March 8 camp’s confusion is not justified, accusing it of placing personal ambitions ahead of national interests.

On the Christian meeting at Bkirki earlier on Tuesday, the Mustaqbal bloc hoped that it would help end the divisions between the various Christian powers in Lebanon.
