Two Inerga-Type Rockets Explode in Tripoli

Two Inerga-type rockets exploded in sensitive neighborhoods of Tripoli Thursday that have previously been the scene of clashes between Alawite and Sunnis, a security official said.

One rocket exploded on a street in the Jabal Mohsen neighborhood, near a school, mainly inhabited by Alawites that back the embattled Syrian regime.

The second explosion took place shortly before midnight in the Bab al-Tebbaneh neighborhood facing Jabal Mohsen. The rocket hit a disused petrol station that was damaged along with a car parked nearby.

There were no reports of injuries and no one claimed responsibility.

The army immediately deployed heavily in the area to prevent an escalation.

An Nahar newspaper remarked that this was the second incident ahead of planned demonstrations by Hizb ut-Tahrir after Friday prayers. The protests are aimed at sending a message of support to the Syrian revolution.
