Jumblat Condemns Jarmana Bombing, Urges Syria's Druze to Join Revolt

Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat condemned on Thursday the bombing that targeted the Jarmana town in Syria on Wednesday, saying that it is aimed at stirring sectarian tensions in the country.

He therefore urged in a statement Syria's “Druze population to join the Syrian rebels who are marking in blood heroic battles against oppression on a daily basis.”

“Their failure to join the rebels does not fall in line with their heroic stances during the great Syrian revolt that overthrew the French mandate,” he added.

“Jarmana has been used as a scene of terrorism that seeks to end the Syrian revolt and maintain fear among the people,” he continued.

Jumblat offered his condolences over the lives that were lost and saluted the sides that refused to get dragged into the “Syrian regime's trap to create strife.”

Simultaneous car bombings killed more than 50 people and left a trail of destruction in Jarmana a town near Syria's capital Damascus on Wednesday.

The explosives-packed cars were detonated at daybreak in a pro-regime neighborhood of the mainly Christian and Druze town.
