More Homs Refugees Flee Syria’s Unrest to Wadi Khaled
Syrian citizens have continued to flee their country’s unrest by seeking refuge in the village of Wadi Khaled on Lebanon’s northern border with Syria, As Safir reported on Tuesday.
A number of Homs city residents spoke of their suffering to the newspaper and expressed their previous intentions to come as refugees to Lebanon. “The bad security conditions banned them from going out of their houses in Homs,” they said.
They stressed that “security forces and public committees are deployed along the border… forcing people to pass through illegal crossings that connect Wadi Khaled with Syria.”
As Safir said that the village’s residents were surprised by the “security developments in Syria, welcoming the refugees in their homes.”
“The number of refugees is expected to increase in the coming days,” especially after the village hosted around 200 people in less than two weeks, the newspaper remarked.
Al-Awada town Mayor Fayez al-Abdullah who is hosting two families in his house urged the government and the public and private institutions to “visit Wadi Khaled area and provide the refugees with their needs.”
