Saqr: Syria's Arrest Warrants are Source of Pride

Al-Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc MP Oqab Saqr considered on Tuesday the arrest warrant issued against him by the Syrian regime “a source of pride coming from this era's stupidity and its assassin”.

"Issuing these warrants is a clear proof of the Syrian regime's involvement in the fabrication of the recordings' case,” Saqr said in a released statement.

"The entire case was made up by the same intelligence service that plans assassinations,” he stated, saying that the tapes' issue was executed by (Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel) “Aoun and his media tools and a newspaper known for its subordination to (Syrian President Bashar) Assad”.

Saqr said: “Informing the Arab Interpol about this arrest warrant gives me a free pass to all the region's countries while Assad is hiding underground with his slayers from the justice of the Syrian people and the rebels”.

The MP described equalizing the audio tapes with the case of former Minister Michel Samaha as a desperate attempt given that “Assad is approaching the day of his penalization”.

Samaha was arrested in August on charges of forming a criminal gang aimed at carrying out attacks in Lebanon at Syria's behest.

Saqr also urged the Lebanese judicial system not to delay the investigation in this issue as it is not only a matter of “low media standards, but of assassination crimes as well”.

The Internal Security Forces' Interpol office received on Tuesday arrest warrants coming from Syrian authorities against ex-Prime Minister Saad Hariri, MP Oqab Saqr and the Media Coordinator in the Free Syrian Army Louay Meqdad for their alleged involvements in arming and financing Syria's opposition.

OTV and al-Akhbar newspaper, both close to the Hizbullah-led March 8 majority coalition, broadcast and printed a three-part series of the recordings in which the lawmaker allegedly discussed arrangements to ship arms supplies to the Syrian opposition.

Saqr held a press conference last week challenging the Syrian government and his Lebanese foes to prove that he was indeed providing rebels with weapons.
