Report: U.S. Army Seeking to Establish Telecom Station in Lebanon

The United States army has submitted a request to establish a “huge” telecommunications station in Lebanon, reported As Safir newspaper on Saturday.

Official sources told the daily that the U.S. army made the request to the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority through the U.S. Embassy in Lebanon.

When asked by As Safir about its response, a sources from the Telecommunications Ministry said that the request is being studied at the ministry.

It will be referred to cabinet for discussion, it added.

A prominent source from a Christian party from the parliamentary majority told As Safir that a concerned minister had deduced that the U.S. had probably made similar requests in different Arab countries, but it was met with rejection.

Should it be approved, As Safir reported that the telecommunications station may be established near the U.S. Embassy in Awkar.
