Report: Palestinian Man Tortured in Tripoli for Alleged Ties with Arab Democratic Party

Security forces contained an incident during which several men assaulted a Palestinian and forced him to walk naked in a street in the northern city of Tripoli, Voice of Lebanon radio (93.3) reported on Sunday.

It said several men from Bab al-Tabbaneh neighborhood tortured Ahmed al-Mdallali, a Palestinian, and then forced him to walk naked in the street for allegedly working with the Arab Democratic Party.

VDL did not give further details and did not say if arrests were made after the incident.

The ADP has influence in Bab al-Tabbaneh's rival neighborhood of Jabal Mohsen, whose residents are majority Alawites and are known for their support of the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad.

As for Bab al-Tabbaneh, whose residents are Sunnis, they back the revolution against Assad.

The two neighborhoods have repeatedly witnessed deadly clashes, the latest of which were earlier this month when scores of people were killed after news broke about the death of several Salafist men in an ambush made by Syrian regime troops as they were infiltrating the town of Tall Kalakh to fight alongside the rebel Free Syrian Army.
