Jumblat Denies Holding Secret Talks with Aoun

Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblat denied on Sunday holding talks with Free Patriotic Movement chief Michel Aoun, saying he doesn't keep such meetings secret.

In remarks to An Nahar newspaper, Jumblat said: “I am not used to holding such secret meetings. But if they do take place, then I would announce them.”

His denial came a day after a local website said a meeting was held between the two officials at a restaurant in the town of Aitat.

Heavy private security measures were taken during the talks between them, the report said.

Jumblat warned on Saturday of attempts to cause further sedition and division among the Lebanese, urging officials to attend the upcoming national dialogue session.

“We should confront the matter responsibly and fortify coexistence and unity,” he told his visitors in al-Mukhtara.

President Michel Suleiman has invited the members of the all-party talks to a session on January 7.

The last session that was set to be held on November 28 was postponed after the March 14 opposition boycotted it for its refusal to sit at the dialogue table with Hizbullah and for its call to the cabinet's resignation.
