Judicial Council Releases Suspects Linked to 2008 Tripoli Army Attacks
Four suspects linked to 2008 attacks against the Lebanese army in the northern city of Tripoli have been released on bail, reported the National News Agency Wednesday.
It said that Othman al-Sayyed al-Sabsi, Razan Moufid al-Khaled, Rashid Mohammed al-Mustapha, and Alaa Ahmed Mehrez were released on a bail of L.L.2 million each.
The suspects were held on charges of violating the state's internal security and for being linked to an attack against the army in Tripoli's Tall region on August 13, 2008.
Sabsi was also held on charges of being linked to an attack against an army bus in Tripoli's Behsas region on September 29, 2008.
He was released on a bail of L.L.1 million.
Ten officers and three civilians were killed in the Tall attack against the army, while the Behsas attack claimed the lives of four soldiers and two civilians.
The militant group Fatah al-Islam was suspected of being behind the attacks.
The group had waged a battle with the Lebanese army at the Palestinian refugee camp of Nahr al-Bared in northern Lebanon between May and September 2007.
The army defeated the group, but its leader Shaker al-Abssi had vowed in 2008 to avenge the defeat.
