Egyptian "The Home Page" has been selected as one of the semi-finalist teams for this year's MIT Enterprise Forum Arab Start-Up Competition for the Startups Track

Idea Inspiration

In crowded and busy Cairo, it could be quite a haste to run errands around the city. For married couples and other people looking to furnish their apartments, it's difficult to get to the right places and proceed with shopping. Currently furniture suppliers have a hard time displaying their products in a dynamic way, while customers are also deprived from efficient product browsing. In Egypt, the real estate sector has been growing rapidly and many people are either looking to furnish their new homes or want to renovate their current ones.

The Home Page

This online platform is a space for the best exhibitors in the field of interior design to showcase their products in a user-friendly way to optimize both the consumer's shopping experience and the suppliers'. The Home Page will save time and cut down on costs for both customers and furniture businesses.

For customers, not only do they get to now easily shop for furniture from the comfort of their homes, the platform offers free advice from design professionals who can help in tips on efficient space management and even color matching. Besides filling up the gap in the furniture market, especially when it comes to online selling, The Home Page offers a multiple of solutions for sellers. Similar to the case of most online platforms, it provides sellers with a targeted medium for advertising. With the ability to analyze traffic, in terms of consumer profiles and preferences, exhibitors can now asses their Return on Investments in a more efficient way, test their products and the ability to lock in customers through online membership systems.

Advice to Entrepreneurs

Having ventured into the Egyptian market, these young entrepreneurs believe that it is crucial to know your market. Feasibility studies are usually underrated by entrepreneurs, and "surprises are not always pleasant", as the team remarks.

With many striving to separate friendship from business, the team claims that if a friend can help you increase your revenues and decrease your costs, get him/her on board otherwise "keep them for hangouts".

The Home Page team is in it to win it. They simply claim to have joined the competition to win, while acknowledging the regional exposure MIT Enterprise Forum for the Pan Arab Region will be offering.
