Geagea: New Cabinet Will Isolate Lebanon from Arab, International Communities

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea noted on Thursday the absence of Arab and international statements of support for the new government.

He said that it was instead met with “complete Arab silence and some skepticism, except from Syria and Iran, who emerged as the victors after the announcement of the government lineup.”

The new cabinet was met with “western skepticism with some strongly-worded warnings,” he said.

“If it was welcomed in such a manner then this gives us a clear idea of the nature of this cabinet,” he stated.

Geagea asked: “Where will this government take us? What can it achieve after being met with such condemnation and reservations by more than half of the Lebanese people?”

“It is best to describe it as the cabinet that will isolate Lebanon from the Arab and international communities,” the LF leader concluded.

The March 14 camp has described the government as being one-sided, saying that it belongs to Syria and Hizbullah.

It vowed in a statement on Wednesday to confront alleged attempts by the new cabinet to take Lebanon back to the era of Syrian hegemony and integrate the country’s institutions into Hizbullah’s statelet.
