Berri Slams U.S. Stand: What Was Acceptable under Hariri is Now Forbidden under Miqati
Speaker Nabih Berri stressed on Wednesday the need to devise the government’s policy statement saying that the cabinet has internal and external challenges to confront.
He said before MPs during his weekly meeting with them: “The main challenge it faces is being able to succeed.”
“It should be allowed to restore trust among the Lebanese on the political and economic levels,” he added.
Moreover, he noted the discrepancies in the United States’ positions towards the Lebanese government, accusing it of adopting double standards.
Berri said that the United States approved of certain matters under former Prime Minister Saad Hariri’s government, while it disapproved of the same issues under current Premier Najib Miqati.
Addressing the discovery of offshore oil in the Mediterranean Sea along the Lebanese coast, the speaker pointed out that this issue has not been granted the attention it deserves and it is being dealt with at a slow rate despite his personal follow up of the matter.
“Major revenues can be reaped from exploiting the wealth,” he stressed.
