My question was directed towards those who do not believe that Hezbollah is good for Lebanon yet they support him for different reasons (Michel Aoun & Co.)

it is part of the democratic process to have politics in campus. This is happening everywhere in democratic countries. what should be forbidden is hizbullah which is an undemocratic party whose leaders are appointed by Iran and that enforces its will on the nation through its weapons.

This way, they can attend classes during the day and fight at night.

And this is M8 democracy !

If you cannot tamper with the votes, then block the roads, protest, boycott ...

Hezbollah has shown once again that it is incapable of democracy or adhering to democratic principles.

This is the party you "pro-democracy" aounists are supporting !

Yalla, take over USJ, call the dean a zionist, put him in your "prisons" and declare the elections fraudulent.

Hezbollah should have had "99%" of the votes like Bashar in Syria ...

Hezbollah should be ruled out of government and parliament ! KHalas ba'a ! Enough with this joke !

It us much mire than a stylent dispute. It is a réjection of democracy by student affiliated to a party who imposes its agenda by force through its weapon. It is also an aggression by hizbullah students in a Christian area.

Thumb FlameCatcher 15:42 ,2013 تشرين الثاني 25

@Southern : "he sounds ridiculous by calling the army General Jean Qahwaji to solve a students disputes"

Should he solve disputes the Hezbollah way ? Maybe gather a couple of hundred people, provide them with blackshirts and weapons and hit to the streets and cause tensions and fear ?

Or maybe set up roadblocks ?

Or maybe assassinate his opponents, its less of a hassle and you can always blame it on Israel because the "sheep" will believe anything you tell them...

Maybe the best way to solve disputes would be to send half your student "army" to AUB or LAU and solve their problems too ... you can always blame it on terrorist students with tuitions paid by Saudi Arabia and Hariri... they bring very dangerous books to school !

Missing greatpierro 15:43 ,2013 تشرين الثاني 25

Southern I am not sectarian but there is a reality in this country. The Christian cannot accept that shiite students backed by a terrorist militia imposes there will on them especially that they are demonstrating against democracy. Similarily, shiite lebanese demonstrated against BasmatWatan TV program (which aired a Parody of Hassan Nasrallah) in Christian areas. Christians feels threatens in their living and their values as those demonstrations are threatening democracy and freedom of speech that are an essential value for Christians.

Thumb lebanon_first 16:26 ,2013 تشرين الثاني 25

Great Pierro is right. YOur accusations of sectarianism are cheap.

HA does not beleive in democracy. They beleive in the force of the strongest, they thrive in rule of the jungle.

They do not want to apply democracy amongst their constituents, forcing people to vote for them or Amal- even killing shiite heroes like Hashem al Salman who protested against them

There are regions in lebanon that apply democracy and rules and pay taxes and those which dont. HA's regions dont. Let HA stay in their regions and apply their rule of the jungle there. They are not welcome in Tripoli or Hamra or Ashrafieh. We more than welcome heroes like Hashem el salman and other patriots.

So FT it is not about gharbieh charkieh, and Southern it is not about chiite. It is about democracy and rule of law.

Thumb Dr.I.Mughniyeh_theheadless 16:12 ,2013 تشرين الثاني 25

The Hezballah students have a legitimate reason to blockade the University after all they expected to get their PHDs when they registered there and showed their "Asheaf ek Nass" Resistration hospitality card just like their counterparts at the UL and Dr Mowatenn, Dr Southern, Dr Flamethrower. They could not understand why the USJ would not give them PHDs without having to attend any courses anywhere since kindergarten.

Thumb Dr.I.Mughniyeh_theheadless 16:22 ,2013 تشرين الثاني 25

Thumb FlameCatcher 17:09 ,2013 تشرين الثاني 25

@Mowaten : hell, you can also butcher people like Hezbollah without being called daktor ... you can also support regimes that killed Lebanese by the thousands and burried them in mass graves. No doctorate needed !

Go cheer Hassan and Bashar, no education needed at all ! You simply need to obey and be a sheep ... don't stray too far from the flock though as they will most certainly put you down !

Thumb _mowaten_ 17:18 ,2013 تشرين الثاني 25

Thumb FlameCatcher 17:23 ,2013 تشرين الثاني 25

@Mowaten : unlike you, i don't spend my days struggling to make sense and brainwash others.

And unlike you, I respond to what you struggle to make appear as opinions or comments.

I know you're incapable of answering me so you opt for the easy way out : attack, insult ... this is Hezbollah tactics ... if you're unhappy, ATTACK like dogs because no possible dialogue will get you what you want !

You're simply incapable of argument ...

Thumb Dr.I.Mughniyeh_theheadless 17:29 ,2013 تشرين الثاني 25

Yeah Dr Mowaten, who knew Bashar would be a better butcher than he is a daktor. I mean if Hafez had only known that little Bashar would go into the family butchery business he could have saved the Syrian people tens of thousands of legally ill-gotten cash and send him to Lebanon. Here Bashar could have peacefully practiced the art of murder with the rest of the Syrian army instead of wasting his talent in London and it's conspiratorial universities.

Wlek ya 3ammé even in the 70's we had political cells "khaléya" in our schools.
Khalyéa Kataeb
Khalyéa Ahrar
Khalyé kaza ou Khaliyé maza.

I am sure that they had Khaléya in areas that were under the control of the Ishtirakié/Aoumié/Mourabiton/Amal/Communists for the respective parties.

And this fine tradition of politicizing education, and imposing one side of the debate on young students, extended to the Universities. What we are seeing today is only an extension of what happened in our academic institutions as far back as the 50's and 60's. This is a direct result of a weak and dysfunctional state, of a country ran by local strongmen who only care about their own turf and nothing else.

Thumb _mowaten_ 17:20 ,2013 تشرين الثاني 25

thefact: grow up a little, this is brainwash indeed, but to think it's any different in any other country would be naive. what one country does with student councils, another does with brutal war video games and hollywood movies. by the time they are 18 they are all pumped up and ready to go half way across the globe to kill arabs they hate without having ever met them before.

Thumb jabal10452 17:33 ,2013 تشرين الثاني 25

Mowaten, if we are to try to solve the huge, systemic problems of our country, we need to look in the mirror. So allow me, "the LF guy", to look at the mirror.
We had Kataeb and Ahrar cells in our school back in the 70's. Anyone even contemplating the remote idea of starting, say, a Communist cell would be roundly beaten and expelled from the school. Children of parents known to have been affiliated with the "other" parties before the civil war started kept a very low profile.
So where was democracy? Where was debate? Where was the exposure to a multitude of opinions that is a challenge to a student's intellect? Nowhere. The atmosphere reeked of fascism. I didn't see it then, but I see it very clearly now. This is what bothers me with the politicizing of our schools and universities.

Thumb jabal10452 17:34 ,2013 تشرين الثاني 25

cont:
Sure, Americans are bombarded with anti-Arab propaganda and so forth, but no one is forcing it on them. It is not institutionalized. There is free speech and freedom of thought. We have it too in Lebanon, but is it limited by the power of whatever party happens to be dominant in a certain area.

Thumb _mowaten_ 18:46 ,2013 تشرين الثاني 25

I agree with you that political activity and political organizations must be forbidden in schools. Students shouldn't be there for political education, but for CIVIC education. Once they have this with them, they will be better equipped to make the political choice that is best for them. We must encourage political awareness in our children, but they need to grasp the basics first.

I have been visiting naharnet for years now, sometimes reading the comments. I decided to join now, to add a voice of reason to the sea of so many unreasonable people. I have some opinions I would like to express.

Is this how Lebanese people want to live forever? Sunni this, Shiite that, Maronite this, Druze that. It's so backwards and ignorant, I'm embarrassed when I see people speaking like this and then claiming to be Lebanese. Lebanon was historically a haven for all religious groups, but we seem to have forgotten that.

Where is your national pride? Why does Lebanon have to rely on foreign financial and military support to survive? Why do we remain silent when a foreign country bombs inside our territory (regardless of which country)? Why can't we have electricity 24 hours, 1 electric and water bill, safety and security and an economy to speak of? Why do we have to leave the country to get a good job, unless our connections are good (or bad if you know what I mean)?

Thumb lebanesenationalist 22:58 ,2013 تشرين الثاني 25

Why are people fighting in Syria, or fighting for Palestine, or for Saudi or Iran or Zimbabwe... Who cares about these countries??? Care about yours, love it because it is the most important thing you have.

Please people, ma 3am nazzir, it isn't important anymore who started this or that, what matters is what we can do now. Don't let another generation grow up like ours and our parents' did. Break the cycle.
