Two Canadians of Lebanese origins won seats in the parliament of the Nova Scotia province in Canada, reported the National News Agency on Monday.

Lina Mitlij and Patricia Philippe Arab won the seats in the elections that took place last week.

NNA said that it was first time that any Lebanese expatriate wins a seat in such elections.

Mitlij and Arab hail from the Bsharre town of al-Diman and they are in constant contact with Lebanon and the Maronite Patriarchate headquarters in their hometown, it added.

They dedicated their victory to Lebanon, stressing their loyalty to their second home Canada.

They also emphasized that they seek to serve Canadian society and bolster Lebanese-Canadian ties.

Hopefully Canada is not a racist State as Lebanon is: they became fully Canadians while in Lebanon people who are born in Lebanon are still denied citizenship.

You're right. Citizenship is one issue. In Lebanon some profession are forbidden to non-lebanese. This is pure discrimination!

And I add the job discrimination is nonsense because the more educated they are, the better they can serve us in Lebanon, the better they can serve their countrymen if they return to their homelands.

Not EXPATRIATES, Lebanese immigrants, or Canadians of Lebanese origin. When one runs for an office in a country, he or she is no longer an Expat. Good luck to them, and hope that they would live up to the expectations of those who elected them.

Kananljdid, This a nasty and cheap remark. Lebanon is not an immigrant country. Our laws governing citizinship are not inclusive of immigrants who settle here. One is Lebanese when one's FATHER is Lebanese. The law has To change to: one is Lebanese when one is BORN to A Lebanese parent! This has nothing to do with racism, but all about Sexism. Lebanon can not open its borders to immigrants. We don't have the vast fields of Canada, nor the opportunities of America.. we are a tiny country, mountains forming 2/3 of our surface, with a population of 4 million (plus) and surrounded by conflict, war, and poverty.
It is a miracle that we still exist! Give us a break!

HeHe, If born in Canada or Lebanon under refugee status, citizenship in the respective country is denied. So if you're talking about the Syrian and Palestinian refugees, they won't get it and hope will never get it, unless they become LEGAL immigrants that is!

The educated, the moderate, the civil citizens are forced to leave the holy land of Lebanon because of the thiefs/politicans and their ignorant armed thugs

This article is misleading. Joe Ghizz was the premier of neighboring New Brunswick, he was the first "non European" premier of Canada. His son, Robert, is now the ruling Premier of the province.
