General Security Chief Maj. Gen. Abbas Ibrahim headed to Doha on Wednesday to discuss with Qatari officials the case of the two kidnapped bishops by armed men in Syria in April.

According to al-Joumhouria newspaper published on Thursday, Ibrahim held talks with senior Qatari political and security officials, including his Qatari counterpart.

Ibrahim is pushing forward the case of the Bishops Youhanna Ibrahim and Boulos Yazigi to guarantee their safe release.

The security official reportedly held a meeting with Syrian President Bashar Assad recently.

Ibrahim said that Assad expressed readiness to exert efforts to help the release of the two bishops.

However, As Safir newspaper reported on Wednesday that Lebanon is exploiting the case of the two kidnapped bishops, who are Syrians.

Damascus considers the abduction of the bishops as a “national matter.”

Bishops Ibrahim and Yazigi were kidnapped on April 23 in the northern Syrian province of Aleppo while they were on a humanitarian work.
