Israel carried out four air strikes on the Gaza Strip late Tuesday in retaliation for rocket fire against southern Israel, an army spokesman said.

There were no immediate reports of casualties, Palestinian medics and witnesses said.

"Earlier in the day soldiers near the security fence (between Israel and Gaza) saw a rocket fired," an army spokesman said.

"The fire was aimed at the soldiers who escaped injury in the attack.

"In retaliation, the air force targeted a weapons workshop and two terrorist tunnels in the southern Gaza Strip as well as a location used for terrorist activities in the north."

The spokesman said all four targets were hit.

Last week, Israel carried out two air strikes on the Gaza Strip in response to rocket fire that followed an Israeli incursion.

The title is missleading. It's the other way around. Israel has bombed the Palestinians about 100000 times more than they have retaliated. Israel has no right to target any palestinian in gaza or anywhere else because it's their land whereas israel is a foreign invader that should never have been created. If palestine attack russia or argentina or wherever else these so called israelis came from THEN and only then do they have a right to attack back because their real country was attacked. Israel however is a colonialist project and the palestinians have millions of lives to destroy until they even come close to a tooth for a tooth justice after all the harm and opression israel put them through.

At least AFP tells it the right way "air strikes on the Gaza Strip late Tuesday in retaliation for rocket fire against southern Israel".
The important word here is RETALIATION
