Jumblat Rejects Claims that Iranian Embassy Bombing Linked to Hizbullah's Fighting in Syria

Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat rejected on Monday claims by the March 14 camp that the Iranian embassy bombing in Beirut last week is linked to Hizbullah's fighting in Syria.

He said in his weekly editorial in the PSP-affiliated al-Anbaa website: “It is a wrong connection especially since those sides have absolutely no control over the so-called takfiri groups.”

“Those who invented the takfiri mentality have now turned against it and we warn against getting involved in debates over this sensitive issue,” he added.

On this note, he stressed the need to strengthen coordination between security agencies in light of growing indications that al-Qaida members had infiltrated Lebanon and in light of the unprecedented deterioration on the security and political levels given the severe political divide.

Twenty-five people were killed and over 140 wounded in twin bombings near the Iranian embassy in Beirut last week.

An al-Qaida affiliated group, the Abdullah Azzam Brigades, claimed responsibility for the attack, saying that it was aimed at pressuring Iran ally Hizbullah to withdraw its fighters from Syria.

Commenting on the deal between Iran and world powers over Tehran's nuclear program, Jumblat hoped that this development will lead to Arab-Iranian dialogue that may end the “cycle of violence that has started to take on a sectarian path.”

“We hope that the agreement may help put an end to any possible Israeli wars in the Arab world and that it may halt the arms race in the region,” he continued.

Iran and world powers reached an agreement on Sunday over its nuclear program.

Tehran agreed that it will not enrich uranium over five percent for the six-month period and will neutralize its entire stockpile of uranium enriched to 20 percent, which is close to weapons-grade and therefore an area of top concern.

In return, the EU and United States will suspend sanctions on Iran's petrochemical exports and gold and precious metals sector.

U.S. trade restrictions on the country's auto industry will also be suspended.

Lebanon needs to be rid of both Takfiris and your firends HA ..... they both share common ideology and preach violence. Lebanese people deserve better than that.

Jumblat ~ “Those who invented the takfiri mentality have now turned against it and we warn against getting involved in debates over this sensitive issue,”

Not yet Walid ... The KSA must renounce their terrorism and end the funding by the government and all the Takfiri princes playing God. Until then the KSA is fair game for criticism.

mckinl: this reminded me of our conversation the other day, i dont agree with a few details but overall it's well worth the read:

This Dr. Nacib Hoteit is an idiot ... I found numerous fallacies in his interview with RT.

Here is just one: " Samir Geagea and Bachir Gemayel, representing the Druze and the Maronite Catholics respectively, back the March 14 coalition."

Really? Which one of these two represents the Druze, Samir or Bachir? I can't trust this analysis at all with the numerous errors I see ...

that's one of the details i was talking about, i think something got messed up in translation, or the journalist made a typo.
it doesnt sound like a mistake any lebanese could make, let alone an expert.

@ mowaten

This Dr. Nacib Hoteit practically gives the KSA a free ride. I wonder what the dear doctor says about all the Madrasas and Salafist Imams and Shieks that the KSA sponsors around MENA and beyond?

Not buying Dr. Nacib Hoteitone bit ....

Thumb _mowaten_ 25 November 2013, 18:42

a free ride? by calling them sponsors of terrorism and pawns?

well anyway, felt like sharing the read, you make of it what you want ;)

@ mowaten

Sorry to sound so abrupt. I do respect youe opinions here ... apologies

Yes ... but the KSA is not a pawn but a player. The emails from wikileaks show that the US was very angry at KSA for their terrorist activities. The KSA is far more a instigator than "pawn".

Terrorists are not born, they are made and HA is an expert on making them for HA and for the other side. Just like Assad uses them to justify his ownership of Syria, HA is doing the same to justify their ownership of Lebanon. We can not ask you (Hezbys) to stop creating them because that would mean your extinction).

Jumblatt's seen the writing on the wall. He finally realizes that the FSA-Al Qaeda jihadist terrorists are actually a threat to the Druze in Syria and finally came to his senses. He also realized that the Iranian nuclear deal sells out FSA-Al Qaeda and the February 14 Saudi-Wahabi coalition and is distancing himself from them.

True Karim

If there is another Civil War and Hezbollah takes the gloves off March 14 will be annihilated. If they can battle IDF and rout Saudi/CIA armed militias in Syria what can a couple angry street kids and suicide car bombers hope to accomplish.. There is an old saying. "Watch what you ask for you might just get it." At best your homes and neighborhoods would lie in ruin like those places in Syria that were formerly under the "control" of "rebels". Form a government and start trying to do the right thing instead of bickering like teenage girls and getting nothing done. Lebanon is going backwards while Israel goes forward. You have no one to blame but the obstructionists, The leaders of March 14 who take money from the Saudi Arabia _Israel's new best friend.. It should be clear even to the idiots amongst you that the revolt in Syria was a preplanned attempt at Regime Change that used the so-called Arab Spring as an excuse to smuggle arms and Islamist Terrorists into Syria. Wake Up.
