'Villas-Boas Abuse' Music to Ears of Fed-up New Yorker

A musical theater lover who shares the same initials as under-fire Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas is tweeting song lyrics back to irate Spurs fans who deluge her with abuse.

Ashley Van Buren from New York, a freelance writer and researcher according to her blog, uses the Twitter name @AVB, giving her the same initials as Villas-Boas.

Following Tottenham's insipid 5-0 defeat at home to Liverpool on Sunday, she received a stream of abuse from fans of the London club who spotted @AVB and saw red.

But rather than get upset, she got even.

The woman who describes herself on her Twitter feed as "I deal in dreamers and telephone screamers", posted a tweet warning would-be abusers: "Reminder that I am NOT the U.K. football coach, so if you send me a death threat meant for him, I'm gonna tweet you a musical theater lyric."

Van Buren stayed true to her word replying to one detractor: "So long, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, good night. #SoundofMusic."

Another received: "The sun will come out tomorrow! #Annie."

But perhaps her most cutting riposte to a certain @DippyAFC -- an Arsenal and Maidstone United fan from Kent -- who sent her the message: "spurs are shit!!!!", was a reference to the song that has become Liverpool's anthem, You'll Never Walk Alone, a show tune from the 1945 Rogers and Hammerstein musical 'Carousel'.

"With hope in your heart/And you'll never walk alone/You'll never walk alone! #Carousel," came Van Buren's reply.

Later she explained: "This happens every weekend. But today I had enough."
