Mansour Says Syrian Warplanes 'Not Hostile'

إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربية W460

Caretaker Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour has described Syrian fighter jets as “friendly” and not “hostile” after the Lebanese army opened anti-aircraft fire in a border area.

“We should find out the truth. We are waiting for the army leadership to provide us the details and the available information so that we could deal with this issue based on the security agreements signed between the two countries away from politics,” Mansour told al-Joumhouria newspaper in remarks published on Tuesday.

The Lebanese army fired on Syrian aircraft that violated the country's airspace Monday, the first time Lebanon has done so since Syria's uprising broke out nearly three years ago.

The military fired anti-aircraft guns at warplanes after they fired missiles in a mountainous, barren area close to the northeastern border town of Arsal.

“Lebanese territories should not be threatened by Syria” and the other way around, he said.

Mansour called for resolving the issue through the “historic and brotherly ties” that link the two states away from tension, narrow interests, hatred and accusations.

Monday's incident does not affect the nature of relations between the neighboring countries, he said.

Caretaker Defense Minister Fayez Ghosn said the army was acting on the government's orders.

The military "has clear and sufficient orders from the political authorities to respond" to such attacks, he said.

It is all a matter of perspective. For Mansour (The Irano/Syrian) these warplanes are not hostile. Who can argue with that?
God help Lebanon from the cancer within.

Default-user-icon jadecat (Guest) 31 December 2013, 08:05

is he serious? so its only an act of aggression when it targets the political party he belongs to? but if it targets a political party he is at odds with, then its fine?

how do you argue with such blatant disregard for the sovereignty of Lebanon coming from our own foreign minister.

the faster a federation agreement is put in place, the better it is for all Lebanese. We want nothing to do with the hizb or its foreign minister

Thumb irus_da_virus 31 December 2013, 07:52

Hostile?nooo ofcourse they are not hostile, warplanes are used to spread flowers and candy for everyone.Mr Mansour the first word in warplane is war, hence their very definition is hostile no matter where they come from, just because its a Syrian warplan it doesn't change a thing, What a joke!

Default-user-icon Ismail (Guest) 31 December 2013, 07:53

Syrian warplane fires missiles into lebanon and your Foreign minister says it's not hostile, but when Isreali plane just fly over he say they re hostile. What a joke Ɣou have as a FM.

Thumb bill_the_butcher 31 December 2013, 07:59

Although I disagree with anyone bombing Lebanon. Someone needs to put an end of terrorist activities on our borders.
God Bless the LAF for their hard work but it should be a unified effort with Syria, Hezz and LAF and any other Lebanese citizen ready to defend their land.

Ya ahbal, when the planes fire at Lebanese territories then it is hostile. Unless these bombs had x-mas presents in them then it is hostile.
This guy is really annoying

FT : "articles designed to provoke animosity"

You are too naive to believe so. Or you believe other idiots are naive to believe your conspiracy theory.

You say "awaking past grief" ? For starters : it's not past ! It's soooo very present and what we live today is the price we pay for kicking Syria out of the country. Bashar is taking Lebanon down with him.

You amaze me with your goldfish memory span lasting no more than 3 seconds.

With every one of his statements, Mansour proves he's a Syrian or Iranian minister. He does not acknowledge the existence of the Lebanese state. Neither do you it seems.

Thumb falanges 31 December 2013, 08:13

Syrian Warplanes sending bombs on Lebanon is 'Not Hostile'. It is actually all the opposite. A friendly and supportive gesture to help the Lebanese government. -- Was he looking the camera in the eye while saying this?

Hang this traitor idiot~~~
And he is our foreign minister
Pity lebanon

Thumb -phoenix1 31 December 2013, 12:57

This kind of statement should come as no surprise from a government in bondage to Syria. The honorable minister who is supposed to be our F.A minister seems to be a lot more preocuppied with Syrian affairs than ours. Maybe the time is now dawning on a new order for lebanon, where the Lebanese Army, in fact all the LAF will no longer be under the dictates of such unconvertible clowns, maybe we are now seeing changes beyond our most daring wishes, the coming months will tell.

There is no legality in breach of sovereign Airspace. And even if there is any deal, they would require to ask authorization. And if they did receive authorization, then this would be a major problem because whoever would have issued the authorization would be complicit in war crimes when there is a government directive not to interfere in the Syrian war.
