Franjieh Demands Lebanese Trial for Majed Al-Majed: Handing Him Over Violation of Sovereignty

Marada Movement leader MP Suleiman Franjieh demanded on Thursday trying the reportedly held “emir” of the Abdullah Azzam Brigades, stressing that handing him over to another country is a “flagrant violation of Lebanese sovereignty.”

"A country that respects its sovereignty and its laws does not give both of them up in response to another nation's request, especially if the detainee is a dangerous person that wanted to incite strife,” Franjieh said in a released statement, soon after reports said several regional countries asked for handing Majed al-Majed over.

He added: “Handing al-Majed over is a dangerous precedent and is a violation of Lebanese sovereignty that defeats the achievement made when he was arrested.”

"We call for respecting our sovereignty and for trying al-Majed in Lebanon.”

Franjieh explained that this would preserve “what is left of Lebanon's prestige and sovereignty.”

Saudi Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Awadh Asiri expressed relief on Thursday over the arrest of the "emir" of the Abdullah Azzam Brigades, the al-Qaida linked group that claimed a double suicide bombing at the Iranian embassy in November.

“If DNA tests prove that the person detained is al-Majed then we're extremely thrilled,” Asiri said.

He also added: “It's normal to coordinate with the Lebanese authorities to continue the required legal measures in order to hand him over to Saudi Arabia if his identity was confirmed.”

Meanwhile, Iranian Ambassador to Lebanon Ghazanfar Rokn Abadi announced that his country has officially asked Lebanon to participate in the investigation with al-Majed, as he is accused of being behind the blasts that targeted Iran's embassy in Beirut.

In 2009, a court ruled that al-Majed is involved with Fatah al-Islam who battled the Lebanese army in the northern Nahr al-Bared refugee camp in 2007.

He is also wanted by Saudi authorities “for being affiliated with al-Qaida.”

Missing peace 02 January 2014, 16:48

I am with Frangieh on this one, let the terrorist be tried here in Lebanon, since it is us who caught, it is us that must try and sentence him. I am sorry, but I just saw it on the news, another terrorist blast in Southern Beirut, why, why? Damn!!

Thumb Mystic 02 January 2014, 16:40

@dear phoenix, now see what i mean. We didn't accuse anyone unless we are hundred 100% miye bl miye knows who it is. Unlike Geha and the other m14 who immediately took action and blamed Hezb. Now this is another proof that someone is trying to create strife, i believe those people responsible are the same that murdered Shatah.

Thumb Mystic 02 January 2014, 16:49

the_roar fact is we have to see who is the worst ones. The ones that bombed and humiliated Lebanon, or the ones sponsoring the people exploding people on both sides. Now Syria helped us against Israel in 2006 aswell as Iran.

Thumb Mystic 02 January 2014, 16:52

Ofcourse Lebanons middle name is strife, since our whole government is buildup by sects. The people making these bombings are people that wish Lebanon, to have a new Civil war.

Thumb Mystic 02 January 2014, 16:56

the_roar, as much as we agree. It is unrealistic

Mystice bro, wallahi I know what you're talking about, in fact, if you read the posts of late last year, I was one who warned several times of the FITNAH that is being played out on us Lebanese, and quite possibly against the wishes of many in this forum, I have noticeably abstained and did not subscribe to wild accusations, in fact I am not that kind of person. I know that pretty soon, a new thread will be started about this terror attack and that again we shall see another round of wild speculation. In this somber moment, may I express my solidarity with the victims of this latest blast, like I did last week when Al Shatah was so brutally killed. In this somber moment, may we all solicit the protection of God, and for wisdom and patience to prevail.

Mystic - read up about the civil war and the role of the syrian regime and then discuss the topic.

Thumb Mystic 02 January 2014, 17:05

@Phoenix, i know bro. I also immediately said that Shatah was not just a lose for M14 but a lose for everyone since his murder was an entire goal to create this deadly fitnah between us all. And so is this bombing of Southern Beirut. I do not believe real Lebanese wants a new civil war ok.

Texas, skin deep, on the surface yes, I am aware of the protocols and treaties signed between Lebanon and other countries, but I would like to see that covenant that makes those responsible, responsible for their cats, among them acts of recklessness and corruption, so in a nutshell, yes we have treaties, but we have dirty politicians on all sides of the spectrum, whom can we trust? My drift Tex.

Thumb -phoenix1 02 January 2014, 16:57

I fully subscribe to your post Roar, we Lebanese are truly the victims of everyone who has a score to settle with the other, and our lack of unity is making matters a lot worse.

Thumb -phoenix1 02 January 2014, 16:58

***Sorry Tex, meant to say acts instead of cats. Where did these cats come from?!

Thumb FlameCatcher 02 January 2014, 18:40

@Purr : your 4 generals are criminals and should be jailed for life for all their crimes and treason. I don't care if they were involved or not in Hariri's murder.

They ruled Lebanon on behalf of Bashar, especially Jamil el Sayyed which is a Hezbollah Saint today.

Aounies for example forgot all the crimes commited against them by Sayyed... he beat you, jailed you, killed some of you ... and you PRAISE HIM ???

Thumb Mystic 02 January 2014, 16:37

Franjieh - “flagrant violation of Lebanese sovereignty.”

Thank you Franjieh for uttering the truth. I hope the others will take your advise.

I can't believe in 2014 we would even consider giving up al-Majed to KSA. This will make M14 look very weak. Somebody stand up!

Thumb FlameCatcher 02 January 2014, 16:47

Great ! I agree !

Would you call for Bashar to be charged in Lebanon all the same regarding the violation of our sovereignty ? Or Hezbollah too ?

Fath el Islam was armed, trained and introduced to Lebanon by Syrian Intelligence Services and they were protected by Hezbollah. What does that make them ? Friendlies ?

Where is your link you liar ?

Here's a comprehensive report of all the "points of views" about who Fath el Islam is.

So who do you believe ? Pro - Syrian and Pro- Iranian sources ? or Pro anything else ? Your leaders have not really been trustworthy and beacons of truth have they ?

Missing ArabDemocrat.com 02 January 2014, 20:21

FT - that is nonsense. Explain to me how the bases, arsenals of Fath-al-intifadah (a pro-regime palestinian militia) and the whole nahr al bared camp was handed over to Fath al islam without a shot being fired.

And Iranian money is yielding its sour fruits in Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and Yemen. It is unfortunate that Iran and KSA policies are making sure that nothing will be left of the Arab people dreams for freedom.

Finally, Sleiman jr frangieh-assad says something clever.
Funny he said that coz his family has been traitors to lebanese sovereignty for 3 generations at least...

Missing youssefhaddad 02 January 2014, 19:31

Do they want him to be tried in the lawless Lebanon?
Yes they do because he might have been a Syrian agent all along and in Lebanon they have a chance to save him while in Saudi Arabia they don't!
Lovely outburst for Sovereignty for someone who accepts Syrian and Iranian hegemony over Lebanon's neck.
