Report: March 14 Committee Setting Strategy Ahead of 'Constitutional Disobedience'

A committee made up of March 14 officials has been holding discussions to unify the proposals on the coalition's new strategy, the Kuwaiti al-Anbaa newspaper reported Tuesday.

The daily quoted informed sources as saying that the committee's initial talks are focusing on merging the proposals of the alliance’s different parties on the strategy pending an agreement over their joint vision on the situation in the country, including Hizbullah's assistance to keep its fighters in Syria.

The strategy will deal with the required quorum for the presidential elections because March 14 does not have the two-thirds majority of the 128-member parliament and rejects a simple-majority, the sources said.

The alliance also holds onto the option of a nonpartisan government, they told al-Anbaa.

March 14 will carry out a political and diplomatic campaign under the slogan of Lebanon's neutrality, the abidance to U.N. Security Council Resolutions 1559 and 1701 and the support to the Special Tribunal for Lebanon, the sources said.

The campaign will be followed by a “Constitutional Disobedience,” which some of the coalition's parties have said would involve the continued boycott of parliamentary sessions and stopping all sorts of contact with Hizbullah.

The move would also lead to a freeze in talks between Speaker Nabih Berri, who is the head of the Amal movement allied with Hizbullah, and al-Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc chief MP Fouad Saniora, the sources added.

More obstructionism is the order of the day for M14. Now they will even disallow talks with HA or Berri. This is hardly a change of direction. At first they hinted at compromise but over the months it has all boiled down to isolating the Shia, carrying on the KSA Fatwa against the Shia.

What is your take on Janet Yellen's appointment as Fed Chair? Is that good for the resistance?

Thumb mckinl 07 January 2014, 10:57

What is your take on the fact that Mustaqbal is trying to ostracize both HA and Amal?

Between the two they represent some 35-40% of the Lebanese population. I guess Mustaqbal gets to choose who is Lebanese now

Thumb ice-man 07 January 2014, 12:23

@mckinl, I don't like politics.

Thumb proudm14 07 January 2014, 14:26

mckinl it doesn't matter how much they represent. Majority does not mean you can step on everyone else and do whatever you want. We have already seen what you guys are planning for the country with this little 2 year experiment of M8 rule. No thank you. Time to tackle HA head on before they destroy Lebanon forever.

Not isolating the Shia but the parties involved in the war in syria.

You are right about hujairi. Yet if hujairi not complying it is because no one wants to tell what really happened. M14 are saying that the light should be done completely about the events in resale and all the culprits should be judged

M14 us adopting a stupid strategy. It seems to me it is a childish behavior to quit talking to the opposing party. Now more than ever they need to ALL talk for the sake of Lebanon

Thumb mckinl 07 January 2014, 09:03

Mustaqbal is fully implementing the purge of its members that will allow any compromise whatsoever with HA and now it seems Amal as well.

You are correct this is a stupid strategy ... if you believe in the well being of Lebanon. Mustaqbal is calling for chaos and eventually civil war.

Talk about what when hizbullah say that no discussions should be done about arms of hizbullah, fighting in Syria or the key ministries in the new government. At the same time you have m14 politicians being threatened daily.

Missing greatpierro 07 January 2014, 11:27

M15 are not disobeying any rule. It is 100% constitutional. However when berry shut down the parliament in 2006 2007 this was unconstitutional.

Thumb geha 07 January 2014, 11:45

you discuss with people who are man enough to keep their word, nt with children or subordinates to iran who cannot keep their word.

Thumb cedre 07 January 2014, 11:53

it's very childish that m14 doesn't want to form a government with HA that kills them, kills syrian, is a terrorist group, an armed militia implenting iranian agenda. How childish...

Thumb zakblat 07 January 2014, 12:50

March 14 should just team up with the "Syrian National Coalition," neither of them want to negotiate & both are losers.

Thumb Mystic 07 January 2014, 13:01

Good one zakblat lol.

Thumb Mystic 07 January 2014, 13:03

M14 wants it all, with no conditions, disarm hezb, geagea as president, saudi arabia main partner, etc. How will we negotiate a neutral cabinet like that?

Thumb cedre 07 January 2014, 17:10

only thing m14 and most lebanese want is to disarm the iranian militia, dont care about presidency, ksa, ect...

Thumb Mystic 08 January 2014, 05:09

When did you become most Lebanese cedre? What scale are we talking about here?
