Phalange: We Won't Take Part in Cabinet that Protects Illegitimate Arms

إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربية W460

The Phalange Party announced on Monday that it is more concerned with the policy statement of the new government rather than how many seats it obtains.

MP Sami Gemayel said after the party's weekly politburo meeting: “It would be impossible for us to take part in a cabinet that protects illegitimate arms and protects Hizbullah's fighting in Syria.”

“We do not care about the lineup of the government as long as we receive clear assurances about its ministerial statement,” he explained.

The Phalange Party had previously said that it is awaiting the March 14 camp's position on whether it will take part in a new cabinet.

The camp has yet to present its stance to Prime Minister-designate Tammam Salam.

Speaker Nabih Berri had recently breathed new life in the government formation process after proposing a formula that grants eight ministers to each of the centrists and the rival March 8 and 14 camps.

President Michel Suleiman had threatened to form a neutral government should the political powers fail to agree on an “all-embracing” one.

The March 14 camp had allegedly agreed to the 8-8-8 formula, but it is awaiting answers to inquiries it raised about its ministerial statement, the rotation of power, Hizbullah's fighting in Syria, and a number of other issues.

God bless kataeb, Lebanese forces for their stance. Why should they rule w/ the people who keep assassinating their followers and their relatives? Hariri should do the same!

Thumb chrisrushlau 13 January 2014, 19:31

"Illegitimate" means "undermining the legal order". The deal by which so-called Christians get half the seats in Parliament even thought they are only thirty percent of the population is grossly illegitimate.

Thumb primesuspect 13 January 2014, 19:36

Wat about the ones in exile and expatriates? 80% are Christians and represent the triple of the Lebanese populacion at home.

Thumb Loubnani 13 January 2014, 20:54

Sectarian you will always be with that mentality. Unless they have an official census that is appropriate to the condition of the country then that silly talk you mention is nothing more than mere speculation. For once I agree with primesuspect.
Lebanese expats and economic migrants and not to mention the exiled are mostly Christian and should most certainly be included in a census if it ever happens since they can and do vote.
Your comment is uncalled for and completely irrelevant to the subject at hand. Same sort of talk that caused the civil war to start with. Personally I am with MPs based on merit and not religion but I fear we are far from achieving that anytime soon

"Illegitimate" means "undermining the legal order" ......
Such as HA is doing to the LAF, Telecommunication, drug trafficking, control of airport and seapoort, car jacking and kidnapping. Thank you chris.... for putting all of these and much more into one concise sentence.

“It would be impossible for us to take part in a cabinet that protects illegitimate arms and protects Hizbullah's fighting in Syria.”… very well said, one country, one legitimate military force and allegiance to Lebanon only.

Thumb cedre 13 January 2014, 22:01

no prob bro, i think cedars2 was ironic though...

Missing beirutbastard00 13 January 2014, 22:07

He's only talking about the ministerial statement... Taking part in a HA included gov is a foregone conclusion.

What Iran did with H.A. through Syria paid off for Persian interests, and thousands of innocent Lebanese died as pawns in their hands. It had nothing to do with "zionism" threat, and has a lot to do with KSA and who will end up barking the loudest in the region. After all, Saddam Hussein was taken out by the U.S. primarily for whose interests?

Thumb primesuspect 14 January 2014, 02:03

Saddam Hussein was taken out by the US in Iran's interests. They r the ones ruling Iraq with their local Nusrallah terrorist known as muqtada and Maliki. Iran's imperial stretches from Persia 2 Lebanon thanks 2 the US. So, we say no 2 US/Zionist/Persian Imperialism!

Keep an eye for the usual car bomb sent by the armed militia to eliminate the freedom of speech, hence the Syrian dictatorship way of ruling.
God bless those who speak the truth as it hurts only those who prefer to live the deceitful life.
