Sources: FPM to Participate in Cabinet despite Rejection of Portfolio Rotation

The Free Patriotic Movement will participate in the new government despite its leader's rejection of the rotation of portfolios, FPM sources said Wednesday.

The sources told al-Liwaa newspaper that MP Michel Aoun's announcement that he rejected the rotation would not be an obstacle to the FPM's participation in the cabinet.

“The government is the executive authority and it is unacceptable to give up proper Christian representation in the sovereign and important portfolios,” Aoun said Tuesday.

“We can offer a lot of sacrifices but we cannot sacrifice the people whom we represent,” he said.

The sources denied that the FPM had agreed on the names of the ministers who will be handed the portfolios from its share in the government.

“No negotiation has been made yet on the names,” the sources told al-Liwaa.

Aoun's stance was impeding the government formation process after the rival parties agreed to have a 24-member line-up in a major breakthrough since PM-designate Tammam Salam's appointment in April last year.

Despite the obstacle, Speaker Nabih Berri, who is a major player in the negotiations aimed at forming the cabinet, has expressed optimism at the possibility to form the government this week.

The FPM rejection of ministerial portfolios rotation is not sustainable. Why should the FPM keep exclusivity of some ministries while all the other sides accept the principle of rotation. Those demands which show the malaise of a large proportion of the Christians in Lebanon who support the FPM.

Christians feel that their rights are not well represented in the government institutions and that they have become followers of Sunni or Shia. Because of this, they demand a minimum of rights, for example the exclusivity of ministerial portfolios such as the telecom and energy that have a large impact on the life of Lebanese.

If I were General Aoun, I would focus, not on asking for privileges but work hand in hand with all the Christian leaders to re-enforce the leadership of Christian community. Christians are a social, cultural and economical force in Lebanon. They have brought so much to Lebanon. However their narrow minded internal dispute have weakened them dramatically.

I agrée with you FT that both Gebran and nicas are doing a good job. The arguments of Aoun in keeping those two portfolios should be on competence rather than on Christian rights.

(1). Poor people of Lebanon, ya m3attarin ento ya sha3b Lubnan el 3azeem. First they put you in the mood of a resigned government, then they shifted you to a newly elected PM designate Salam, a decent guy to be honest, poor guy he tried as best as he could, sabrak ya Ayyoub he tried, then they started speaking of a cabinet of national unity, they made you buy the idea, then they remolded your mind to accept some cabinet, 8/8/9, 9/9/8, 8/8/8, 10/10/10 wou Rabbak bya3ref shoo kamen, now that finally we got 8/8/8, they have reworked your brains to accept a post rotation. Look at what is happening in this forum, we have not denounced this filthy stinking ploy and fabrication again, we are fighting it among ourselves.

(2). Poor People of Lebanon. As a people, we are just going along another sick TIRKIBEH, another genius of our politicians, this man talks of Christian interests, the other of the Druze, the other of the Shiite, the other of Sunni, the other of the Aalawitem wlik shou bekoun ya msekine, hal add sirtoh btefhamoh? Walaw ya sha3b? Can anyone eher, who has Lebanese blood running in his veins, why the rotation? Is this a good sign of trust between them? Does it not indicate that each one of them wants the money of the posts but not the interests that should be the right of the people? Do we have a Christian republic, or a Shiite one, or a Druze one, of Sunni one wou Allah byaref shou kamen? Or do we have a republic of Lebanon, a Lebanon of ALL the Lebanese?

(3). Poor People of Lebanon. Weynkoun ray7in ba3ad, la ayyeh jhannam baddoun yekhdoukoun hal 3akarit? Is any ministry the property of anyone party? Or individual? Or is it not the post of subservience to the people, you ya dirty mafia politician, defe3 shi min jeybtak ya 7arameh? Or are you not stealing from the people? Who has caused the void in Lebanon, me the citizen or you the filthy mafia? Is the oil mine or yours? These rats, they care less for you the people, they are all after the bounty, you ya sha3b, you are zilch, nada, nothing. Stop celebrating this thing you call independence because that is a monumental lie, you are as enslaved to them as they are enslaved to those they call master, Syria, KSA, Qatar, Iran, I care less, this is what it's all about, you the people are nothing, not even a number would you believe? Stop, pause, meditate, think, who is your sickness? Is it your diabetes? Your lung cancer?

(4). Poor People of Lebanon.....Your clogged heart? Your blood pressure? NO, none of these are your real ailments, your one sickness is those you call POLITICIANS, how henne al 7aramieh, li 3am mardoukoun. Now they have just shown you how little you are to them. When you are sick, who will accept you in if you are not insured? If you call the police when they steal your car, will they come? Who has turned your dream Lebanon into a permanent cage and nightmare but the politicians? You pay big cash from your toil and blood to educate your children only for them to be begging a job for $400, or go to the Gulf or Africa for better shores, who is behind all that $h*t but the politicians?
