Mansour from Geneva: Terrorism, not Hizbullah, Cause of Syria's Turmoil

Caretaker Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour stressed on Wednesday that Hizbullah's interference in Syria is not the problem, pointing out that the region's upheaval is cause by the presence of terrorist ideologies.

"Those claiming that what is happening in Syria is a result of Hizbullah's involvement in the war want to divert attention from the fact that there are foreign terrorist groups in the region,” Mansour said during his participation at the Syria peace talks in Switzerland's Geneva.

“The region has become a battle field with terrorists' presence and Lebanon was not excluded from it,” he added.

Mansour noted that these recent regional challenges affected Lebanon's security.

“And this is clear in the dominance of terrorist and Takfiri ideologies that never had presence before in the region. Lebanon did not survive these destructive ideologies and organizations and a series of explosions targeted more that one area in the country,” the caretaker FM said.

He remarked that by adopting a dissociation police, Lebanon wanted to avoid getting involved in the Syrian conflict.

He elaborated: “We knew interfering in Syrian affairs would drag the country into a dark phase and lead to destruction and chaos in the country. Unfortunately, this is what happened and the world is counting the number of victims and the number of foreign fighters sent to Syria.”

Mansour also talked about the influx of refugees from the neighboring war-torn country.

“Another challenge Lebanon is suffering from is the influx of hundreds of thousands of refugees whose number mounted to a one quarter of the country's population,” he stated, calling on the international community to “become aware of the difficult situation the country is going through.”

“This is a small country that is carrying a huge burden,” he remarked.

He considered that the Geneva summit is a chance to find a solution to the Syrian crisis.

“And we believe that there are no alternatives to it,” he said.

Mansour called for the reconstruction of Syria, explaining that it will protect regional and international peace.

“And we call for this summit to be a path towards national reconciliation and dialogue between different Syrian groups. We are looking forward to Syrian people's wisdom and constructive dialogue will get Syria out of its crisis, which will ensure attaining the much needed peace.”

“Only the Syrian people decide on the future of their country, without any foreign interference,” he insisted.

The the U.N.-led peace talks kicked off on Wednesday morning in the Swiss city of Montreux to try to find a solution to end the Syrian war, with the participation of delegations representing the regime and the opposition in Syria.

My favorite part is this:

"“Only the Syrian people decide on the future of their country, without any foreign interference,” he insisted."

man if there ever was a group more intellectually dishonest than M8

Thumb _mowaten_ 23 January 2014, 16:52

HA is not influencing the syrian people's decision, they're defending lebanon and taking out the pests that are lurking on the border before they lay eggs

Thumb ex-fpm 22 January 2014, 18:15

I don't think he ever claimed he represents you, me, or the lebanese people.

Thumb thepatriot 23 January 2014, 16:27

Yes... but he's the Minister of Foreign Affairs... He is kind of our Ambassador... and many of us feel ashamed about that...

Thumb ex-fpm 22 January 2014, 18:13

How shameful! What audacity to sit in front of the international community and acknowledge as a foreign minister that a lebanese militia is fighting in Syria thus making the Lebanese nation as a whole look like a fool.

Thumb galaxy 22 January 2014, 18:19

Shameful indeed. I am speechless.......

Thumb ice-man 22 January 2014, 18:21

Like we kicked the south lebanon army ass the time of hezbos/mansour and co will come...
But plus one for ur participation southern...bravo

Default-user-icon simon (Guest) 22 January 2014, 20:36

I can't believe a goverment spokesman supports a militia... This is very damaging to Lebanon. Forget it. Give Hizbullah the power so they can rule the country and integrate their militia within the army. Then maybe we can live in Peace.

No other choice.

@southern: If as you say it is up to the Syrian people, then why your terrorist hizb is fighting in Syria?

Thumb _mowaten_ 22 January 2014, 21:12

they will do anything and everything they can, until they are eliminated, which really leaves only one option.

Thumb beiruti 22 January 2014, 23:58

Mom sour obscures the point. Who says that Hezbollah started the turmoil in Syria? No one. Hezbollah is a participant in the turmoil in Syria, and it's participation in Syria caused the turmoil in Lebanon. Mansour, get your countries right!

Thumb primesuspect 23 January 2014, 00:31

Thumb liberty 23 January 2014, 04:18

It is not unusual for you southern to make completely stupid remarks. HA according to you is at the border. Do you have one grain of brains to even utter these words. The lebanese border is inside Damascus, Aleppo, Homs, Qalamoun, Idlib. Just shame on whoever brought you into existence.

Missing canadianadam 23 January 2014, 05:37

First off, Naharnet please ban the comments above about Sharia law being equivalent to eating hearts. That is simply prejudice, not just sectarian.

Second, how can this guy be allowed to speak as a foreign minister? Isn't a foreign minister or any minister accountable to a civilian government or in this case a representative of the president or prime minister? Neither of them support a militias illegal occupation... That's the problem with this resistance equation, they don't realize the merit in being the representative and being responsible to a civilian led government from their own country.

Thumb liberty 23 January 2014, 05:45

scum has a distinct foul smell.

Thumb _mowaten_ 23 January 2014, 12:08

you must know, you live in it.

Missing cedars 23 January 2014, 13:46

This guy is a waste, can't wait until he is gone the useless idiot minister. What has he done to the state? After his tens of trips to Libya has he resolved Sader mystery, No.
Does he ever speak to anyone except the Syrian ambassador in Lebanon, why did he not travel to Saudi Arabia as foreign minister to receive the 3 billion if he represent/ the state and not the Syrians in Lebanon? Did we get car bombs and mosques blown up in Lebanon before Hizbollah entered Syria and freed Qusayr as claimed?
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction, you learned that in physics 101 mr minister if you ever went to school. Continuing to carry arms outside the statehood post the war will invite fanatics, encourage other political opponents to reclaim their arms again. Wake up and smell the coffee as you are wasting my tax money.

Default-user-icon truuuth (Guest) 23 January 2014, 15:44

seems fake to you FT. dont fool yourself, you FPM'ers have recently learned from your venerable achraf el nas allies never to pay ANYTHING to the government. But the rest of us christians and sunnis pay customs, tax on profit, tax on inheritance and so on...
Since the creation of VAT in 2003, all phones are "tehrib" in Lebanon because your filthy militia gets them from abroad and dont pay customs or VAT, let alone taxes on profit. The real distributors (samsung, nokia, ericsson) have closed shops after having a higher cost than retailers in dahye. All the agents were christians. no money leads to emigration, worst thing for christians that ever happened is FPM

Thumb eli-g 23 January 2014, 14:19

what does pro Syrian minister means? Does it mean he is LEBANESE but is loyal to Syria? I am confused..

Thumb _mowaten_ 23 January 2014, 16:53

it means he has normal relations with our neighbor. for m14 minds, if you're not a saudi-slave you get called pro-syrian.

Thumb thepatriot 23 January 2014, 16:29

yeah... thanx Mansour for defending the Assad Regime and Iran... but in no case Lebanon. This guy spent too much time in Iran where he used to be an Ambassador...

Thumb thepatriot 23 January 2014, 16:35

That means he should have been born a few kilometers more to the East.
You can also call that a casting error!

Default-user-icon أراميس (Guest) 23 January 2014, 20:19

In line with this person's (mansour) blablabla :
من يدعي أن مشكلة سوريا هي وجود إرهاب يصرف نظره عن غزوة حزب الله لها من الأراضي اللبنانية.
