Suleiman Calls for Immediate Stop to Interference in Syria's Affairs

إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربية W460

President Michel Suleiman said Thursday that distancing Lebanon from the Syrian crisis comes through the immediate end to interference in all of the neighboring country's internal affairs.

In a statement issued by Baabda Palace, Suleiman held onto the official policy of dissociation from the Syrian war.

“This is done through an immediate stop to meddling in all of Syria's internal affairs and mainly the fighting there no matter what the justification is,” he said.

The president was mainly referring to Hizbullah. The party has sent members to Syria to fight alongside troops loyal to President Bashar Assad against rebels seeking to topple him.

Sunni fighters generally from northern Lebanon have also went to the neighboring country to help the rebels.

Suleiman called for a political solution that would bring back stability and security to Syria and help the return of the refugees back home.

The president hoped for the success of the Geneva II peace talks to end the Syrian crisis.

The U.N.-sponsored conference -- the biggest diplomatic effort yet to resolve Syria's devastating civil war -- opened in the Swiss town of Montreux on Wednesday with heated disagreements among the two sides and world powers.

This is obviously a response to Mansour's rebellious and unauthorized speech at Geneva.

God Bless President Suleiman for laying down the rule of law. By calling upon the harriri-Geagea blue takfiris not to meddle in syrian affairs he clearly strengthens the noble and just cause of our Islamic Secular Shia Only Resistance aka HA (Hussain Army). The President understands the resistance is the only legitimate and constitutionally enabled entity that is capable of defending the lebanese and the minorities in the levant. May the Lord Bless Sayyed Hassan for his brave and bold decisions. Under the combined leadership of Sayyed and Prince Talal Arslan, our petite nation is witnessing an unprecedented increase in Takfiri tourism from every corner of planet earth. Karbalaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Thumb zahle1 23 January 2014, 19:37

I support the President's talk track. I think it is fair and accurate. I feel that Naharnet should have not drawn a conclusion on this one. The President was referring to HA, but not exclusively HA. He was referring to everyone in the spirit of being neutral. Although I think everyone would agree as far as Lebanese in Syria, HA has the largest contingency, there are other sects/parties there, like Assir's people/takfiri/fidiyeen. We do need an immediate buildup of our military. I agree we should call in some favors and get some resources for our army.

Thumb -phoenix1 23 January 2014, 20:54

It seems that the band wagon of those who love to criticize the president no matter what he says or do will never relent. OK, fine, meshel 7al, but as the body count of innocent victims starts to mount, when the death toll of people who have nothing to do with this utterly crazy war in Syria begins to reach as crazy proportions, would people start listening to those voices of reason, voices that simply had the decency to warn. Warn yes, heard surely not, but those who still feel that guns speak a wiser language. Time will tell, soon.

Thumb -phoenix1 23 January 2014, 23:57

Legit, thanks for a good post as always from you, but being a centrist is never simple. The president is a centrist, but when he sinks his teeth into issues he believes firmly in, he gets into negative ground with whom it concerns. I am a centrist in my views, and I know the feeling. Cheers bro.

useless call... hezbollah do not obey the state of Lebanon...

Thumb proudm14. 23 January 2014, 21:42

druze would 100% be with us. also the only christian participants in such a fight would be LF'ers (small to mid size militia, however not armed) since FPM support base are not 7arbi types.

this is all moot, though. because there is not going to happen anything in lebanon. it is an HA/Aouni propaganda. There is no sunni militia ready and armed to fight HA nor is there any desire in the sunni street to create such a thing.

Missing VINCENT 23 January 2014, 21:52

I don't get it? OK for argument sake, I am willing to say and admit that H.A. fighters bravely fought, defended and died for a good cause in Syria. At some point enough is enough. So why doesn't Iran send her own fighters to Syria and give H.A. a break? I'm pretty sure that Iran has an army. If you guys are sharing and mutually benefiting, share the burdens with the benefits. One may say: "the only thing necessary for the triumph of evil, is for good men to sit idle and do nothing". So Iran, if you are the good guys, don't sit idle. Go to Syria and fight these jihadist, Islamist or whatever filth they associate with fighters.

Thumb legit 23 January 2014, 22:04

@VINCENT,
I have to admit it that you have a point!

Missing VINCENT 23 January 2014, 23:18

OK, they are the same filth. Lets bring H.A. fighters back to Lebanon to resist the Zionist enemy that we were told their creation exists today to resist. Not to be the pawn in the proxy war between Sunni and Shiite. Don't bring the Sunni vs. Shiite battle into Lebanon.
