Berri Says Cabinet 'Best' Lineup amid Developments, Contacts Hariri over Hizbullah in Syria

Speaker Nabih Berri lauded on Monday Prime Minister Tammam Salam's cabinet, describing it as “the best we can achieve amid the critical situation the country is passing through."

“The cabinet isn't technical nor neutral... It is a political government based on delicate balances,” Barri said in comments published in As Safir newspaper.

He expected that Salam's cabinet will not include severe disputes between ministers.

On Saturday, PM Salam unveiled a compromise government, capping nearly 11 months of political wrangling.

According to the newspaper, Berri contacted al-Mustaqbal Movement Chief Saad Hariri after his speech at a mass rally commemorating the ninth anniversary of former premier Rafik Hariri's assassination at the BIEL exhibition center in Beirut.

“You said that you are seeking to address with me a demand to convince Hizbullah to withdraw its fighters from (neighboring country) Syria,” Berri said.

“Ask me for anything but that... Am serious,” the Speaker added.

Although officially neutral in Syria's conflict, Lebanon is deeply divided over the Sunni-led rebellion against President Bashar Assad, whose troops are backed by fighters from Hizbullah.

Hizbulah's intervention in Syria has drawn accusations from some in Lebanon that the group is entangling the country in the war next door.

Nasrallah says that US, France, Canada, and SA have "concerns over the presence of their youths in Syria", and therefore he claims that gives him the right to "launch a preemptive war". WTF

@ Everyone, it makes me laugh looking at your comments, why do you fight all the time with subjective insults about each other? for pride? for ego? for what? Berri is a crook, and during the attach on beirut, it was mostly AMAL militia down on the streets, for i have observed the fighters and it was not Hezbollah. Berri is a warlord that passed his time, he is now prisonner of Hezbollah. He is breathing solely because he saved them during the mediation with the zionist ennemies that were devastating Lebanon. But yet again, he is a fox and will never forget what hezbollah took away from him. He is the one who tried to prolonge 2006 so that zionists can clear hezbollah. But yet again, hezbollah and zionists, same coin different side. They complete each other in so many ways that they will never brake their love/hate relationship for anything.

@ everyone, by the way Iran if u havent noticed is dining and sleeping with the americans for the nuclear deal. Do you really think the US would deal with Iran if they didnt get a guarantee they will never touch Israel? be it with its own army or proxies like hezbollah? come on.. wake up people, their foreign minister even went on praising jews and saying they respect them and acknowledge holocaust and blabla... this is the first step. You will soon see an armistice treaty between them. Hezbollah nonetheless is trying to keep his " resistance bullshit" against the zionists while we know his masters are having deals. This means one thing. Americans sold us to Iran and Iran sold us to hezbollah and Hezbollah wants lebanon nothing else from the start.

@ Everyone, if some people cannot still get what i mean, then im very sorry, u can try to aim at me by saying im march 14th or whatever, im not anything, i hate both but im objective there. look at reality. Hezbollah wants Lebanon, Salafis want Syria and Lebanon, thus Hezbollah fights Salafis. it is logic. Hezbollah wouldnt fight salafis for Bachar if they didnt hate them and didnt want them to come bother their scheme in Leb. By the way, israelis love bachar and bachar loves them too. with hezbollah included, its a marvelous triangle of love against the disgusting salafists
