Mustaqbal Hopes New Govt. Will Pave Way for Withdrawal of Hizbullah from Syria

The Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc condemned on Wednesday the latest bombings in the southern Beirut suburb of Dahiyeh, while praising the formation of a new government.

It hoped after its weekly meeting that the “phase of the new cabinet will serve as a transition period that will end with Hizbullah's withdrawal from Syria.”

“This will help restore normalcy to Lebanon, which will bolster efforts to build the state and regain the people's trust in it,” it remarked.

“The government should come up with a ministerial statement that must be based on the Baabda Declaration seeing as the accord garnered the unanimous support of all political powers,” it added.

The new cabinet's life should be limited to a few months during which it should eliminate the obstacles that had hindered the functioning of state institutions, continued the bloc.

The government should help restore stability and revive the economy, it stressed.

More importantly, the cabinet should focus its attention on staging the presidential elections that would help lead Lebanon to a new phase during which it can tackle national problems, emphasized the Mustaqbal bloc.

The elections are scheduled for spring.

The bloc also offered its condolences over the twin terrorist bombing that took place in Dahiyeh on Wednesday morning, hoping that the judicial and security authorities will succeed in arresting the perpetrators.

“Protecting Lebanon from these terrorist crimes lies in taking the necessary security measures that will thwart terrorists from entering the country,” it added.

“Terrorism targets all Lebanese without exception and our call for Hizbullah to withdraw its fighters from Syria will protect the nation against terrorists who are using its meddling as an excuse to carry out their attacks,” it explained.

At least four people were killed on Wednesday in two suicide bombings that went off near an Iranian cultural center in Beirut's southern suburbs, an attack claimed by the al-Qaida linked Abdullah Azzam Brigades.

The group said that the attack came in response to Hizbullah's fighting in Syria's war.

The same neighborhood witnessed near simultaneous attacks in November when suicide bombers linked to the Brigades targeted the Iranian embassy.
