Report: Arsal Residents Enraged over Hizbullah Checkpoints

The residents of the Bekaa border town of Arsal contacted several March 14 alliance officials to rebuke arrests carried out by a Hizbullah checkpoint erected on the outskirts of the village, al-Joumhouria newspaper reported on Saturday.

According to the newspaper, Hizbullah members detained several residents from Arsal and questioned them, which angered the residents of Arsal.

The reported pointed out that Hizbullah was previously demanded to remove the erected checkpoints and to hand over security to the army, however, the party failed to comply.

The town lies 12 kilometers from the border with Syria and has been used as a conduit for weapons and rebels to enter Syria, while also serving as a refuge for people fleeing the conflict.

Arsal's residents support the revolt against President Bashar Assad, and the town has become home to thousands of Syrians who have fled the fighting. It has also turned into a route for the trafficking of arms and fighters from and to Syria.

Lebanon is sharply divided over the war in Syria and Arsal is a particular flashpoint as refugees from the uprising and fighters and smugglers hostile to the regime of Assad traverse the border.

Fair enough. HA checkpoints should be removed and replaced by LAF. But on the other hand, the eastern border of Arsal IE the border with syria should be also controlled to stop the influx of bombs.

When/if LAF soldiers reach the HA checkpoint and demand to replace them, then we shall all know if HA is only interested in itself or the peace of Lebanon

Halesh doing what it does best, ie persecuting sunnis.
Where the hell is the LAF ? Is this army khalijis are investing 4 billions ? Would the LAF allow non-christians to put checkpoints around christian areas ?

La ma3loumeitak Hareit hreik and chiah are christian areas. As is Marjeyoun.

Mohammed Shatah was killed by the same takfiris who's trying to create strife with every bomb in Lebanon, beginning with Hariri etc. and the latest in southern surburbs of Beirut.

and then again hezbis act as if they were the government... how come the army let them do so?
what if anyone just set up checkpoints like in the civil war? and the pretend to obey the state and avoid division? they are the ones creating it!!!! tfeh....

Thumb zahle1 22 February 2014, 18:53

I can't believe what I am reading. What about the nice stretch we had of pro m14 assassinations? It was like a turkey shoot from politicians to media figures... So should the LF or Mustaqbal at the time set up checkpoints because they are targeted? Should every sect that gets hit, set up checkpoints? This is so backwards. No takfiri, no HA arms, no KSA, no Iran, no PLO, no Zionists.

Thumb Loubnani 22 February 2014, 21:03

I have to disagree with you Mystic. I do not think they have any right to do so. No one but the state security forces has a right to set up checkpoints. Nothing more nothing less. I still till this day remember the Lebanese Forces check points and what a terrifying ordeal it used to be to go through them. I also remember the progressive socialist party check points on the way to deir el amar. Also a terrifying experience. No one but the state has the right because then they would be accountable for their actions. Hizbullah would only cause more sectarian tension by doing so. You know it's true...

It is to HA interest to keep the country unstable so that their arms are justified. First, in 2006 and now in Syria. Hizb Iran enters foreign land kidnaps Israeli and create a massive war, now they enter and interfere in Syria under Iran's orders as usual to keep their payroll. There was no Nusra and Salafists in 2005 when every Anti-Syrian Lebanese politician was assassinated, HA have created the root of extremism since 1984 when they hit the Marines/Paratroopers in Beirut to show the world how the example of terrorism.
