The Qaida-inspired al-Nusra Front in Lebanon on Wednesday claimed responsibility for firing three rockets on the Bekaa town of al-Nabi Sheet, in the latest such attack this week.

“The heroes of al-Nusra Front in Lebanon shelled the lairs of the party of Iran (Hizbullah) with three Grad rockets in retaliation to its massacres in Syria,” the group said on its Twitter page.

It also vowed “major operations (against Hizbullah) that will deprive its 'rabbis' of sleep and inject terror into the hearts of its members,” noting that “such a party only understands the language of the sword.”

Earlier on Wednesday, state-run National News Agency said “a rocket landed in an agricultural area between the outskirts of the al-Nabi Sheet and al-Nasriyeh towns, causing no damage.”

It said the rocket was fired from the Eastern Mountain Range on the Lebanese-Syrian border.

On Tuesday, three rockets fired from Syria struck residential neighborhoods in the Bekaa town of al-Labweh, in an attack that was swiftly claimed by the Qaida-inspired Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant.

And on Monday, four people were wounded when eight rockets fired from Syria hit the Bekaa town of Brital and its surroundings. Al-Nusra Front in Lebanon claimed responsibility for that attack.

Cedre, you're absolutely correct. Nothing justifies Bashar's existence more than the existence of a terrorizing enemy. This enemy exists to some degree, but some of its components are also the creation of the Syrian regime. I'm not sure why this would surprise anyone given the history of the regime.

HA is obviously not scared of the military might of this enemy (assuming that the rockets are actually the work of extremists on the other side and not the Syrian regime trying to gain sympathy), but continuous attacks in HA strongholds do have an effect. Just as HA's military might is nowhere near that of Israel, the former was still able to inflict damage on the latter (including internal strife). In other words, the same methods that HA used to fight Israel are now being used against it. It's interesting how the tables are turning and HA is now starting to sense a responsibility that it previously had not. In due time, its weapons will become more of a burden for HA than anything else.

Southern, do keep in mind that all it takes is one small excuse for Western powers to dictate a different fate. For example, the US can spray the news headlines tomorrow with information on the torture techniques of the Assad regime (the accuracy of this information is inconsequential). Building on this, the West can decide, for example, to more fully arm and train the Syrian resistance and institute a no-fly zone in Syrian airspace. If something like this happens, the tide will easily turn. It's all very fragile and, at the end of the day, the fate of Syria does not lie in which of the two sides who are currently fighting on the ground is able to beat up the other, but rather with much greater regional issues (e.g. Iran's nuclear program, how Syria will be divided up, etc.) that I assume are being discussed behind closed doors.
