Al-Mayadeen TV Says Cameraman Killed in Syria

A Beirut-based satellite television channel said that one of its cameramen was killed on Saturday while covering the fighting in eastern Syria.
Omar Abdel Qader, who was killed in Deir Ezzor, worked for the privately owned Al-Mayadeen station which supports the government of Syrian President Bashar Assad.
The cameraman was born on March 8, 1987 and died on his 27th birthday.
Media watchdogs have called Syria, where a war has been raging for nearly three years, the deadliest place in the world for journalists.
"The cameraman Omar Abdel Qader, our colleague in Al-Mayadeen, was killed," said the channel, adding that he lost his life while covering clashes between regime forces and rebels in Deir Ezzor province.
In a telephone interview, a Syrian army officer told the broadcaster Abdel Qader died in hospital after he was "shot in the neck by a sniper from a distance".
In a phone interview with Al-Mayadeen, his sister described him as a "hero," adding: "He was always on the front lines."
According to Reporters Without Borders (RSF), 27 professional journalists have been killed while covering the war in Syria. Dozens more have been kidnapped or jailed.

Mowaten - grow up. He was killed in a war zone and I doubt if the one that killed him could have know if the target was a soldier, Shabiha or Journalist - not that this matter to many combatants. Mowaten of course does not mind thousands of civilians being killed in indiscriminate barrel bombings by the Syrian regime.

I cant believe how sectarian some are around here!! Like popeye are for real dude???? Good riddance??? Read the description of his job, he was a CAMERAMAN for god's sake! That means you see what he is recording and happening as opposed not someone writing a report who could alter it any way he wants. What a shame, some people are left blind with hatred to have sympathy and regret for lost lives. May you find someone who says the same about you when humanity gets rid of you and the likes of you saying the same in the comments area...

rafehh he was killed by a sniper, meaning the shooter could clearly see in his scope the "press" markings that journalists have, and coldbloodedly executed him.
as for the claim of indiscriminate bombing, barrel or otherwise, i dont buy the rethoric that the syrian army is "killing it's own people" because obviously they have the people on their side and need to keep it so, bombing randomly would only turn more people into the rebel ranks.
also, they dont have ammo to waste bombing randomly. they use intelligence to identify rebel hideouts, their moukhabarats are pretty good.

I do not envy M14 people. The loss of their cause showed by how the Saudis are now trying to remove the terror synonyms to their name. Its not easy to be fundamentally a terrorist nation and being supported by Israel for being such yet you claim to be not.
Anyway, our condolences to the Syrian people and government for this tragic loss. Its not easy on life-loving people to lose someone. I wish we can say the same to the other camp

nusrayriraya i cant condone that statement, Sunnis are as good as Shias, and same goes for all religions. the animals that HA and the SAA are fighting are not Sunnis, they are takfiris and fanatical extremists who against all the values of Islam. i suspect they were fabricated by the enemies of the Arabs to spread chaos, death and hatred. Look at them in Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon killing brutally and viciously all sorts of people, Christians, Shias, Alawites and Sunnis indiscriminately, including children and women. as the syrians welcomed lebanese, the lebanese are now welcoming them, in even greater numbers and have been doing for years now. also the real syrians, not the chechen/libyan/saudi/afghani/whatever scum who pretend to be "syrian rebels" welcome the HA, because they are ridding them of the plague.
