The army blocked the dirt road at the Hekr al-Dahri bridge over the Kabir River on the northern border with Syria in Akkar, the state-run National News Agency reported on Saturday.

It was also said that the army deployed checkpoints in different areas of Akkar and organized patrols in several villages.

The army and security forces tasked to control the border, upped security measures along the northern border with Syria starting from al-Arida crossing stretching to Wadi Khaled all the way along the Kabir river.

Since the Syrian crisis broke out in March 2011, border areas in northern Lebanon have been infiltrated and movement to and from Syria was reported.

But they will only stop the flow of Sunni and Sunni with weapons. If they are Shiite or Alawite its no problem. They can go fight Israel in Syria. What a mess!

Ok, I agree with much of what you are saying Gabby. We don't need a president that totally steps on our Shiite brothers though. The Shiites did not gain any clout in our country in history near to what they have now. Areas like Baraachit and Bint Jebail...were neglected by our Maronite and Sunni leadership throughout history. We cannot expect after they have worked so hard to become the #1 sect in our country in terms of power that they will just give up everything to be dominated again. I don't think its realistic. They just need to be chopped down to size a bit. Maybe that is through minimizing their arms. I'm telling you we need a strong military. We can't afford to have trouble makers lobbing bombs and shooting over the boarder with Israel. If we can eliminate that, we can get the few miles of land they stole and water back. We need a president that can do that diplomatically and still represent them as well as all of us.
