Woman Sets Herself on Fire over Poor Refugee Aid, Man Self-Immolates over Closure of his Gas Station

A Syrian woman set herself on fire on Tuesday in front of the United Nations aid center in the northern city of Tripoli in protest against the poor aid being presented to Syrian refugees in Lebanon, reported Voice of Lebanon radio (93.3).

The woman has been identified as Mariam Khawli, 40.

A number of people at the scene soon came to her aid and put out the fire, reported the National News Agency.

She has since been transported to al-Salam Hospital.

Meanwhile in the Bekaa, the owner of a gas station who was forced to close his business also set himself on fire, said NNA.

It said that Fawzi Nakhleh set himself on fire after Internal Security Forces closed down his station in Aana in the western Bekaa.

Civil Defense teams soon headed to the scene to put out the blaze.

Nakhle was taken to Chtaura Hospital for treatment.

An officer at the scene was lightly injured in the incident and he has since been taken to Farhat Hospital for treatment.
