Security Plan to Be Implemented in Beirut Soon

The army and Internal Security Forces' security plan that has been implemented in the northern city of Tripoli and in the eastern Bekaa Valley will soon be brought to Beirut, reported the pan-Arab daily Asharq al-Awsat on Sunday.

The plan will soon be implemented in Beirut's western neighborhood, southern suburbs, and Tariq al-Jadideh district.

The army and ISF have been given the green light to enter these areas, said the daily.

Sources monitoring the plan told Asharq al-Awsat that the success of the security plan can be attributed to the local, regional, and international cover being granted to it.

On Thursday, the army deployed in the Bekaa Valley at the start of the security plan after armed forces took full control of all checkpoints on the road linking the towns of Arsal and Hermel near the Syrian border.

The Lebanese army tightened its grip on Saturday on Baalbek's al-Sharawina neighborhood and carried out raids in search of suspects, succeeding in the arrest of one of the most dangerous fugitives, Ali Khodr Jaafar.

A similar security plan had gone into effect in the northern city of Tripoli where scores of suspects have been arrested for their involvement in several rounds of fighting between the rival neighborhoods of Bab al-Tabbaneh and Jabal Mohsen.

Does that include Dahyeh? Does that include arresting everybody with a pending arrest warrant? Does that include those wanted by the STL? Does it include raiding arms depot in Dahyeh, disarming the zoiaters and Meqdads in Ouzai? Does it include arresting the thugs at Mecanique who almost assassinate you when you go to do road worthiness test for your car?

I hope this security plan includes infiltrating the Saudi embassy and arresting its diplomats for espionage and the promotion of terrorism in Lebanon.

i understand your anger dear kaka, you must have been raped by a saudi prince when you was young

eagle dawn and karim
sadly enough those wanted by the STL will not be arrested nor would they raid the KSA embassy. if anything they will arrest a few and ill most likely release them discretely later on.
I just can't believe that they released the spoksman for rifaat eid

Everybody is being cynical.
But this in fact is great news. If the army controls the whole country and ensures stability AND if the gas file gets moving, then Lebanon will experience a new seven years of milk and honey... (and traffic jams since our expats will return)

i love ur optimism lebfirst, but u're day-dreaming.
LAF are arresting small gangs with HizbIran's approval, but we still have 2 armies and 2 presidents in the same country, each looking in a different way...

Thumb lebanon_first 13 April 2014, 14:38

cedre. Be pragamatic.

Iran bought Lebanese Shia with freebies such as free education, free health care, and other social services. Shia will continue voting for the party of weapons. We cannot fight that.

So HA will be there for a while, especially if evil assad succeeds in his quest to kill every free syrian and wins the syrian civil war.

What we can do is to diminish the negative effects of HA and try to live with them, pretend we believe that their aim is against Israel. But we cannot spend our lives in perpetual tension...

Thumb cedre 13 April 2014, 17:43

what u say is totally logical lebfirst.
So u mean we need to satisfy HA in everything coz we know they're here to stay, innit ?

It would be great if the LAF controlled all of Lebanon and its borders.

Secure the windows and doors of the house before you clean the inside. Spend KSA 3billion on building an electric barbed wall between our neighbors.

Maybe if for once we accepted the work of the LAF in good faith, because one day when we as Lebanese will begin enjoying the fruits of our army's labor and sacrifices, then would we say to ourselves, wish we stood by it without all this self doubt. The army is doing its utmost to give us a state, and here we are bickering as usual.
