Geagea: I Would Not Have Run in Elections if I Wasn't Certain of March 14 Support

إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربية W460

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea stated that the deterioration of the situation in Lebanon led him to run in the presidential elections, reported the Saudi daily al-Watan.

He told the daily: “I would not have run in the elections if I was not certain of the March 14 alliance's support for me.”

He made his remarks in an interview to the daily that will be published on Monday.

“The alliance is very close to endorsing my candidacy,” continued Geagea.

“We have our own political agenda and we must seek, with all our powers, to implement it,” he stressed.

“Lebanon has become an open ground for chaos, which leaves it vulnerable to further deterioration,” warned the LF chief.

“Traditional remedies” are no longer possible given this reality,” he noted.

Geagea therefore urged officials to assume their responsibilities towards the state and citizens.

“Strong individuals should assume official posts in order to strengthen the state,” he declared.

“Lebanon should have a strong president who is capable of implementing a strong political program,” he continued.

Geagea is so far the only official to announce his nomination for the presidential elections.

He is scheduled to announce his program next week.

Lebanese media have in recent weeks identified other presidential hopefuls as Kataeb Party chief and ex-President Amin Gemayel and MPs Butros Harb and Robert Ghanem, who are like Geagea members of the March 14 alliance.

Other potential candidates are Hizbullah allies Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun and Marada Movement leader MP Suleiman Franjieh.

I wish you could become President, but not even the Patriarch supports a strong Christian President as he stated that no M14 or M8 President would get the job. The Christians in Lebanon are weak, divided, and unfocused. I wish you and Aoun would agree along with all other Christian MPs on rotation. Example, let it be Lebanese Forces President this time around, an FPMer next time around and agree to support the President no matter what. We go to our Moslem partners as one voice and say this is who we want as President. What will they say; no?

100%

Thumb general_puppet 13 April 2014, 11:45

Unfortunately a strong President is not something that will be allowed by the Iranian militia. At least Geagea is man enough to stand up and run for President, unlike the gutless Lunatic Aoun who only knows how to Run away.

The_snore will soon be here to tell us how the pajama x-genaral can become President with the snap of his fingers... maybe Aoun should close his eyes and click his heels three times, that should do it :-)))))))))))))))

Thumb ice-man 13 April 2014, 11:54

g_p: He does not post on weekends under the_roar. He made it perfectly clear to all. Did you know Baroud met with roar in Australia recently and told him many things about the elections. But, roar prefers not to mention them here for the sake of privacy.

Thumb general_puppet 13 April 2014, 12:09

Yes ice-man, but roro also made it perfectly clear to all that he would no longer post on Naharnet and he came crawling back. Mr Snore is probably in his basement wearing a Lion costume and Roaring his predictions in front of a mirror.

let it be a preliminary election of the president by Christians only
and the one who gets the most votes will be candidate for the presidency
god bless democracy and Lebanon

Nah Bani Maarouf, you're not telling the truth. Your village is not Hrajel but one in the Shouf. For once stop deceiving people. Coolmec, Bani Maarouf is lying as usual, he has nothing to do with Kesrouan but hatred. He is a Durzi, living in the Shouf, period.

Missing coolmec 13 April 2014, 16:35

where is your village? I thought you were from the chouf region

Thumb -phoenix1 14 April 2014, 01:50

Bani Maarouf is now fuming, he, or no, it's calling people by bad names, you're losing it ya Bani Maarouf. Wait, before you shoot yourself in the foot again by responding under your other acronym Inbinharathhreik, remember, I am writing to Bani Maarouf, aka Set bani Zeinab, aka profile, aka HD, aka Rabbak 3alim shou kamen, the city slicker, the licker of Geagea's boots, calling people as villagers, yet wants to be seen as a villager from Hrajel, ya maskin enet. Give Bani Ibinbinladen a fire extinguisher, he is now in flames.

a preliminary elections done by Christians to vote for the person who wants to be their representative as president
this will cut the way for all outside interventions in the presidency
and this way instead of our candidates go for outside support (with pay backs) they will do all to please their community
god bless democracy(people power)

I wish I could share your optimism on Geagea, even if Hakim is a colleage in the same LF of mine, but let's extrapolate. First, Geagea has as many foes as he has friends, so his mandate will be severaly curtailed. Then take the Lebanese presidency, it is already limited by Taef and Doha, so what would Geagea be in effect doing but accentuate an already difficult situation? It would have been best to have technocrat who would enjoy a much bigger supoort across the spectrum and thus be able to offer his expertize on the economic running of our country.

Hi Roar, reading your post makes no room for comfort, but whether we like it or not, what you wrote is correct, unfortunately, we remain helpless bystanders.

I am not playing the sectarian card on the contrary U am everything but sectarian. I realize the president will be Christian but I think all Lebanese should vote.Limiting the presidential vote to Christian votes , in my opinion would widen the sectarian divide
by the way I am christian

Missing coolmec 13 April 2014, 17:22

well first of all I hope to see the day where sectarianism is totally eliminated from our political life. we should choose the president, PM or speaker based on what their political agenda will have to offer to the well being of the Lebanese citizens irrespective of sect. we should emphasize Lebanese rather than Christian sunni chiite druze etc...we pride ourselves as being a tolerant multi confessional country whereby several sects co habit and co exist in harmony. do we? it is just a façade harboring fear and mistrust. I hope to see the day when we choose our leader based on what they have to offer to the Lebanese. As of now ant leader is chosen to satisfy his deep pockets and his cronies at the expense of the people who are getting poorer by the day and facing increasing misery. do you agree that it is insulting that our leaders are chosen by foreign powers?

Missing coolmec 13 April 2014, 17:26

also until such time sectarianism is eliminated keep the president Christian but let all Lebanese decide by vote. The PM will be determined by support from MP's and the same applies to the speaker.it will be far better than having bachar, king abdallah, Obama etc.. deciding who our president should be

Missing coolmec 13 April 2014, 17:32

again that is my modest opinion, but I feel it will help transform our society to a more modern system.
what makes a society an advanced one? isn't its ability to change and adapt to current times?
here in Lebanon we are still applying archaic and antiquated laws to current times and obviously it is not working

Thumb -phoenix1 13 April 2014, 16:53

Roar, Coolmec is among the best people who post here, (bala zoghra fik), I very much encourage you to exchange ideas as this man has lots to offer us, he is decent and civilized at all times.

Thumb -phoenix1 13 April 2014, 17:00

Roar bro, Coolmec is an asset, as you and many other good folks are to this forum, I have yet to see him even once go off rail, which is why I very much encourage you to keep open channels with him. These are the good people we need, since none of us can ever claim to have all the answers, far from that, but to learn from each other is always the right course of action. Now dear Coolmec, check the mirror again, lol. Bless you both.

Missing coolmec 13 April 2014, 17:07

Thank you the roar
I am at a loss of understanding why people use insults to make their point. Firstly it misses their point and actually it saddens me to see that. What scares me and I hope I am wrong but I actually think it reflects pretty much the view of the population with the exception that on line they can freely express themselves .
My only hope for this country is the newer generation as I sense they put this sectarian issue behind them. I hope to god I am right for the sake of Lebanon

Hi Coolmec, today has been a busy day, trying to finish the final touches to contracts before I pack up and leave for Beirut. Sorry, I couldn't get back to you, but I managed to give Bani Maarouf another poke, can't accept such blatant liars.

Thumb -phoenix1 14 April 2014, 12:03

(1) RW. I am praying ya Roaring Wolf, I am praying. But you, you are still a fake and how do we all know it and despite all your wiggling? You hate @TheRoar, you also hate @Wolf, so what better for you to create a profile that mocks them both? If you were new here, then you would have used another alias, that would have been normal, but then, your being here for quite a while, using a new profile such a Roaring Wolf shot you in the foot. You are still Bani Maarouf who has never hid his hatred for me, Wolf, Roar, Mowaten, Karim, FT, Mystic, and all those people he/she disagrees with. But sadly, look at how they debase him, so now what better than another alias like RW, then he gets more insults, those it make you happy? Does it give you a kick to get insulted by them?

Thumb -phoenix1 14 April 2014, 13:05

(2). RW, then, do you know what is spam? Then, what is propaganda as far as concerns you? If the free expression of opinion makes you feel so, then you are in the wrong place. I challenge the Mods to delete all those mulitple users like you, and keep only the people who use just one profile, the first only, and get rid of the new ones that followed, you ya RW will be gone forever, even Ibinharathhriek will go, so he will have to return the old one, Bani Maarouf. You want to know how people like me keep catching you? There are many advanced software in the market, that analyse behavior, punctuation, repeat words, character mapping, you can't wiggle habibi, just drop the explanations, we can't reside on this forever. Again, nothing personal, just a desire to elevate the debates, that's all. Have a good day.

Thumb -phoenix1 14 April 2014, 01:56

LF, you see brother, Roar and I hold mutual respect for each other. We are poles apart most of the time, as I am with most M8ers, yet, it's the mutual respect thatbholds a good relationship going here. Now it matters not if as you said about him or Wolf, I doubt it, they definitely don't have any similar way of posting. My focus is things like Bani Maarouf whom I have unearthed as the author of many, many profiles, all as fake as him. Sorry bro, I respect you a lot as I respect everyone.

Then dear LF, I very much wish that the Mods of this forum delete all the multiple users, let them just leave the first one they started off with, and knock off the ones that followed, I mean it is so simple to do, yet they keep leaving these shameless multipliers remain, and I wonder why? One can even post from abroad whilst masking the real IP, even then, it can be unmasked, so why keep them around? Better keep it qualitative than quantitative, right?

Look ya Bani Maarouf, when you just accept a very simple request from me, and from the others, only asking you to debate any subject, but stop your disrespect to people you disagree with, then all will be fine. I loved the part where you told Coolmec that you are from Hrajel, of course, him staying in Faraya should make it attractive to visit you on his way down to Beirut.
